Pull-Over Sweater Pattern #14

Size 34-36

Materials: Clark's O.N.T. Knitting and Crochet Cotton, 3 balls; or J. & P. Coats Crochet Cord, 9 balls. 1 pair steel knitting needles No. 1. 1 pair celluloid knitting needles No. 2.

Gauge: 7 sts make 1 inch. 9 rows make 1 inch.

Back. With celluloid needles, cast on 104 sts for lower edge of back. Change to steel needles, and work in ribbing of k 2, p 2 for 25 rows (about 2½ inches). K 1 row, increasing 1 st every 10th (114 sts on needle). Change to celluloid needles, and beginning with p row, work in stockinette st until piece measures 15 inches from the beginning. Bind off 9 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows, decrease 1 st at beginning of each of next 6 rows (90 sts on needle). Work until piece measures 6 inches from armhole. Bind off 6 sts at beginning of each of next 10 rows, and work remaining 30 sts for neck band, in ribbing of k 2, p 2 with the steel needles, for 10 rows, and bind off with the celluloid needle, knitting the knitted and purling the purled sts.

Front. With the celluloid needles, cast on 112 sts for lower edge of front. Change to steel needles and work in ribbing of k 2, p 2 for 25 rows (about 2½ inches). K 1 row, increasing 1 st for every 10 sts (122 sts on needle). Change to celluloid needles, and beginning with the p row, work in stockinette st to correspond with the back, until piece measures 4 inches from underarm. Left Side. Work the first 36 sts, turn, p 2nd and 3rd sts at neck edge for a decrease. Continue making decreases at neckedge until there are 30 sts on needle. Work remaining sts until armhold measures 6 inches. Bind off 6 sts at beginning of every knitted row. Slip 26 sts on stitch holder to be held for neck band. Right Side. Attach thread and work to correspond with left side.

Neck Band. With steel needles, pick up and work 26 sts on left front (holding right side of work toward you), work the center 26 sts, pick up and work 26 sts on right front. Work in ribbing of k 2, p 2, for 10 rows, and finish as in back.

Sleeves. With celluloid needles, cast on 76 sts, change to steel needles, and work in ribbing (k 2, p 2) for 16 rows. Change to celluloid needles, and work in stockinette st for 6 rows even. Make an increase at beginning and end of next row, and each 6th row for 3 times. Work even until piece measures 3 inches from ribbing. Bind off 5 sts at beginning of next 2 rows, then 4 sts at beginning of each row until 16 sts are left. Bind off and join seams. When joining sleeve to body, have sleeve seam about 1 inch toward the front (not joined directly to body seam).
