These directions are for Size 12. Changes for Sizes 14, 16 and 18 are in parentheses.

MATERIALS REQUIRED:

Columbia-Minerva Calibar (2 oz skein) - 13(14-15-16) skeins

OR

Columbia-Minerva Nylon and Wool Calibrette (2 oz skein) - 11(12-13-14) skeins

Knitting Needles: 1 pair each "Boye" Sizes 6 and 10 - 14 inch and 1 "Boye" cable needle

Gauge: 4 sts to 1 inch; 11 rows to 2 inches (Size 10 needles - pat st unblocked)

BACK: With Size 6 needles cast on 68(72-76-80) sts. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 2 ½ inches, ending on wrong side of work. Change to Size 10 needles and work in pat as follows: Row 1: (Right side of work) K. Row 2: P 1(P 3 - 0 - P 2), *K 1, P 4, repeat from * across, ending K 1, then P 1(P 3 - 0 - P 2). Rows 3 and 4: Repeat Rows 1 and 2. Row 5: 0(K 2 - K 1, sl 1, K 2 - K 1), *with yarn in back of work sl 1 as if to K, K 1, sl 1 as before, K 2, repeat from * across, ending sl 1, K 1, sl 1, then 0(K 2 - K 2, sl 1, K 1 - K 1). Row 6: 0(K 2 - K 1, sl 1, K 2 - K 1), with yarn in front of work sl 1 as if to P through back of st, K 1, *sl 1 as before, K 2, sl 1 as before, K 1, repeat from * across, ending sl 1 as before, then 0(K 2 - K2, sl 1, K 1 - K 1). Rows 7 and 8: Repeat Rows 5 and 6. Row 9: (Twist row) 0(K 2 - K 4 - K 1), *sl next 2 sts onto cable needle and hold in back of work, K next long st, sl the long st of the 2 sts from cable needle onto left-hand needle first, then the second st, K 4, repeat from * across, ending with twist, then 0(K 2 - K 4 - K 1). Row 10: Same as Row 2. Repeat these 10 rows for pat. When work measures 8 inches from start, inc 1 st each side, then inc 1 st each side every 4 inches 1 time more - 72(76-80-84) sts on needle. When work measures 14”(14”-14 ½”-14 ½”), or desired length from start to underarm, To Shape Armholes: Bind off 4 sts at beg of next 2 rows, then dec 1 st each side every other row 4 times - 56(60-64-68) sts on needle. When armholes measure 8”(8”-8 ½”-8 ½”), measured straight from bound-off sts at underarm, To Shape Shoulders: Bind off 9(10-10-11) sts at beg of next 4(4-2-4) rows, then on Size 16 only bind off 11 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Bind off rem 20(20-22-24) sts for back of neck.

FRONT: Work same as Back until armholes measure 2 inches, measured straight from bound-off sts at underarm, To Shape Front Opening: Work across 23(25-27-29) sts, sl rem sts onto st holder. Continue to work in pat until front opening measures 4 ½” (4 ½”-5”-5”), dec 1 st at front edge every other row 5(5-6-7) times. When armhole measures same as at Back, To Shape Shoulder: Bind off 9(10-10-11) sts at armhole edge every other row 2(2-1-2) times, then on Size 16 only bind off 11 sts 1 time. Leaving center 10 sts on st holder, work other side to correspond. To Work Right Front Border: Sl the center 10 sts onto Size 6 needles and work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 4 ½”(4 ½”-5”-5”) to fit front opening to first dec. Sl sts onto st holder to be worked later. Left Front Border: With Size 6 needles cast on 9 sts. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 4 ½”(4 ½”-5”-5”). Sl sts onto st holder.

COLLAR: With Size 6 needles cast on 24(24-26-28) sts. Row 1: Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, casting on 8 sts at end of row. Repeat Row 1 three times more. Row 5: K 1, P 1, across row, then work across the 9 sts of Left Front Border, being careful to keep pat even. Row 6: Work in ribbing to end of row, then work across the wrong side of the 10 sts of Right Front Border - 75(75-77-79) sts on needle. Continue to work in ribbing until Collar measures 3 inches from start. Change to Size 10 needles and continue to work in ribbing until work measures 6 inches from start. Bind off in ribbing.

SLEEVES: With Size 6 needles cast on 34(36-38-38) sts. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 3 inches, inc'ing 3(1-1-1) sts on last row. Change to Size 10 needles and work in pat as follows: Row 1: (Right side of work) K. Row 2: P 3(3-4-4), *K 1, P 4, repeat from * across, ending K 1, then P 3(3-4-4). Rows 3 and 4: Repeat Rows 1 and 2. Row 5: K 2(2-3-3), repeat from * of Row 5 of Back, ending K 2(2-3-3). Row 6: K 2(2-3-3), repeat from * of Row 6 of Back, ending K 2(2-3-3). Rows 7 and 8: Repeat Rows 5 and 6. Row 9: (Twist row) K 2(2-3-3), repeat from * of Row 9 of Back, ending K 2(2-3-3). Row 10: Same as Row 2. Repeat these 10 rows for pat. When work measures 5 inches from start, inc 1 st each side, being careful to keep pat even, then inc 1 st each side every 6th(4th-4th-4th) row 5(3-4-8) times more, then every 8th(6th-6th-6th) row 3(6-6-3) times - 55(57-61-63) sts on needle.

When work measures 17”(17”-17 ½”-17 ½”), or desired length from start to underarm, To Shape Cap of Sleeve: Bind off 4 sts at beg of next 2 rows, then dec 1 st each side every other row until 21(21-23-23) sts rem. Bind off 2 sts at beg of next 6 rows. Bind off rem 9(9-11-11) sts.

Sew shoulder seams. Sew Sleeves in place. Sew underarm and sleeve seams. Sew cast-on sts of Collar to neck edge, starting and ending at first dec, being careful not to twist front borders. Sew front borders in place, having left front border as underlap.
