Size: 1½ to 2

REQUIREMENTS:
YARN: 4-ounces of 3-ply Baby Yarn or a fine 3-ply Fingering.
NEEDLES: 1-pr. #2 single pointed; 1-pr. #3 single pointed.

GAUGE: 7½ sts to an inch. 11 rows to an inch.

BACK: Using the #2 needles cast on 81 sts. Work in pattern as follows: Row 1: (wrong side) * k 1, p 3, repeat from * across row, ending with k 1. Row 2: (right side) * p 1, k 3, repeat from * across row, ending with p 1. Row 3: Repeat row 1. Row 4: * p 1, knit the 3rd st through the front and leave on the needle, knit the first st, then the 2nd, slip the 3rd st off left hand needle, (baby cable); repeat from * across row ending with p 1. Repeat these 4 rows for the pattern. Work until the band measures 2½ inches. Now change to the #3 needles and work in stockinette stitch (k 1 row, p 1 row) until the piece measures 7½ inches or as long as you need up to the underarm. UNDERARM SHAPING: Bind off 2 sts at the beginning of the next 2 rows, (once at each side). Decrease 1 stitch at each side of the work every other row 3 times. Work even until the arm­hole measures 4¾ inches above the underarm. SHOULDERS: Bind off 5 sts at the beginning of the next 8 rows, (20 sts for each shoulder). Bind off the remaining sts loosely.

Pocket Linings: Using the #3 needles cast on 17 sts and work in stockinette stitch for 2 inches, ending with a knit row. Place onto a stitch holder. Make another piece the same way.

FRONT: Work as the back until the band is finished. Change to the #3 needles and do as follows: (Right side of work) K 8 sts; * p 1, k 3, repeat from * 3 times more, p 1; k 31 sts; ** p 1, k 3, repeat from ** 3 times more, p 1; k 8. (17 sts in the panel). Next row: P 8, * k 1, p 3, repeat from * 3 times more; k 1, p 31 sts, ** k 1, p 3, repeat from ** 3 times more; p 8. Keep cabling on the knit 3 sts as on the band. Work until the piece measures the same as the back up to the underarm. UNDERARM: Bind off 2 sts at the beginning of the next 2 rows. De­crease 1 stitch at each side of the work every other row 3 times. Work until the armhole measures an inch above the underarm bind off. Pocket Bind Off: K 3 sts; bind off the next 17 sts; k 31 sts; bind off the next 17 sts; k 3 sts. Next row: P 3 sts; purl across 17 sts of the pocket lining from a st holder; purl 31 sts; purl in the 2nd pocket lining; purl the last 3 sts. Now work in stockinette stitch until the armhole measures 2½ inches above the underarm bind off. 1st row: K 21, * p 1, k 3, repeat from * 6 times more, p 1; k 21. On these center 29 sts work in the cable pattern for 2 twists. Purl back after 2nd twist. NECK SHAPING: Knit 20 sts; bind off the next 31 sts; knit the last 20 sts; working on the last 20 sts work even until the armhole measures 4¾ inches above the underarm. From the armhole edge bind off 5 sts 4 times. Tie yarn at the other 20 sts and work to correspond.

LONG SLEEVES: Using the #2 needles cast on 49 sts and work in the pattern as on the back band until you have made 4 twists. Change to the #3 needles, with the right side of the work facing you, knit 17 sts; increase 1 stitch in each of the next 15 sts; knit the last 17 sts. Purl back. Work in stockinette stitch until the sleeve measures 8½ inches in length or as long as you wish up to the underarm. UNDERARM BIND OFF: Bind off 2 sts at the beginning of the next 2 rows. Decrease 1 stitch at each side of the work every other row 8 times. Decrease 1 stitch at each side of the work every row 8 times. Bind off the remaining sts. Make the 2nd sleeve the same way.

FINISHING: Sew shoulders, side seams, sleeve seams. Sew sleeves into armhole matching the underarm seams. Make 1 row of s c around the neck edge, and pocket.
