NOTE: Use double 4-ply Knitting Worsted through the whole garment.
REQUIREMENTS:
YARN: 3(4-4) 4 oz. skeins of knitting worsted for Main Color (MC).
2(3-3) 4 oz. skeins of knitting worsted for Contrasting Color (CC).
Note: Main color is used for cuffs, collar and ribbing.
NEEDLES: 1-pr. of No. 9 and No. 11
8(9-10) Buttons
No. 7 or larger Bone crochet hook
PATTERN STITCH:
C.C. Row 1: K 1 * sl 1 stitch as to knit k 1 * repeat to end of row.
C.C. Row 2: Purl.
C.C. Row 3: Knit.
C.C. Row 4: Purl.
Repeat these 4 rows with MC, it will make your pattern.
BACK: With No. 9 needles using MC cast on 46(48-50) sts, k 1 p 1 in ribbing for 2½(3-3) inches. Change to CC, begin pattern stitch with No. 11 needles. Work even till piece measures 11(12-13) inches from beginning, finishing with MC.
ARMHOLE SHAPING: Using CC at the beginning of next 2 rows bind off 2(3-3) sts. Work even in stockinette sts in CC. Dec 1 st at both ends every other row till there remain 36(38-40) sts on needle. Work even till armhole measures 5(5½-6) inches. Change to MC. Make Row 1 of pattern sts. Continue with MC till armhole measures 6(6½-7¼) inches from beginning.
SHOULDER SHAPING: Bind off at beginning of next 2(2-4) rows 5(5-6) sts. Bind off at beginning of next 2 rows 6(8-10) sts. Place remaining sts 14(16-16) on holder.
RIGHT FRONT: With MC and No. 9 needles cast on 25(27-28) sts. Row 1: K 4 * k 1, p 1 in ribbing to end of row. Work even in ribbing keeping the first 4 sts in garter st always with MC. When ribbing measures 2½(3-3) inches, change to No. 11 needles. Work pattern same as back keeping the 4 first sts for facing in MC. When piece measures same as back begin armhole shaping.
ARMHOLE SHAPING: Using CC beginning at side edge bind off 2(3-3) sts. Work even same as back, dec 1 st at side edge till there remains 20(21-22) sts on needles. Work even till armhole measures 4½(5-5½) inches.
NECK SHAPING: Beginning at side edge, bind off 2(3-3) sts continue in pattern same as back dec 1 st at neck edge every other row 2(2-1) times when armhole measures same as back, shape shoulder.
SHOULDER SHAPING: At beginning of every other row at side edge, bind off 5(5-6) sts 1(1-2) times. Bind off remaining 6(6-0) sts.
LEFT FRONT: Make left front to correspond with right front.
SLEEVES: With MC and No. 9 needles cast on 24(26-28) sts. Work in ribbing k 1 p 1 for 2½(3-3) inches. Change to No. 11 needles. Begin pattern stitch increasing 1 st at both ends every 8th row till there are 34(36-38) sts on needle. Work even in pattern till piece measures 13(14-15) inches in all.
TOP SHAPING: Bind off at beginning of next 2 rows 2(3-3) sts dec 1 st at both ends every other row till piece measures 3(3½-4) inches from first bind off. At beginning of next 4 rows 3 sts bind off remaining sts. Sew shoulder seam.
COLLAR: With No. 9 needles pick up 42(46-49) sts around neck edge including those on holder k 1 p 1 in ribbing for 3½(4-4) inches. Bind off all sts loosely.
FINISHING: Sew side and sleeve seams. Sew sleeves into place. Sew buttons on and stretch one st for buttonhole and work around with single yarn and darning needle. Make a chain and pass around neck edge. Block and steam.
