Lacy Knitted Afghan Pattern #688

Size 50 x 70 inches

MATERIAL:

5 skeins Knitting Worsted (4 oz skein) brown

6 skeins Knitting Worsted (4 oz. skein) gold

1 pair knitting needles No. 8

GAUGE: 5 sts. = 1 inch.

PATTERN:

     With No. 8 needles cast on 31 sts. and work in pattern:

     1st row: K2 * K1, y.o., K2, slip 1, K2 tog., p.s.s.o., K5, y.o., repeat from * across row, end K1, y.o., K2, slip 1, K1, p.s.s.o., K2.

     2nd and all even rows: K2, P27, K2.

     3rd row: K4, * y.o., K1, slip 1, K2 tog., p.s.s.o., K4, y.o., K3, repeat from * across row, end y.o., K1, slip 1, K1, p.s.s.o., K2.

     5th row: K5, * y.o., slip 1, K2 tog., p.s.s.o., K3, y.o., K5, repeat from * across row, end y.o., slip 1, K1, p.s.s.o., K2.

     7th row: K2, y.o., K3 * slip 1, K2 tog., p.s.s.o., K2, y.o., K1, y.o., K5, repeat from * across row, end slip 1, K1, p.s.s.o., K2.

     9th row: K2, y.o., K3, * slip 1, K2 tog., p.s.s.o., K1, y.o., K3, y.o., K4, repeat from * across row, end slip 1, K1, p.s.s.o., K2.

     11th row: K2, * y.o., K3, slip 1, K2 tog., p.s.s.o., y.o., K5, repeat from * across row, end y.o., K3, slip 1, K1, p.s.s.o., K2.

     Repeat these 12 rows for pattern and work even until the entire strip measures 70 inch. Bind off. Make 3 brown and 4 gold strips.

FINISHING:

     Sew the 7 strips together from wrong side with an overhand st., alternating a brown strip with a gold strip (as shown in picture).

FRINGE:

     Wind yarn around an 8 inch cardboard and cut at one end. Tie an 8 strand fringe in every point of lace pattern, matching color in strips (3 fringes on brown strips, 3 fringes on gold strips). Fringe other end of afghan the same way. Trim edges of fringe evenly and block to size.
