Knitted Sweater Pattern #5014

Size 1

Materials:
Chadwick's Red Heart Saxony, 3 balls (⅔ oz. balls).
1 oz. fine Angora.
Milward's Phantom Knitting Pins, 1 pair No. 1 (2½ mm. size).
¾ yd. ribbon.

Gauge: 10 sts make 1 inch; 12 rows make 1 inch.

Back. Starting at lower border, with Angora cast on 86 sts. * K 2 rows. Break off Angora, attach Saxony and work in stockinette st (k 1 row, p 1 row) for 6 rows. Break off, attach Angora and repeat from * until 4 Angora sections have been completed. Break off, attach Saxony and work in stockinette st until piece measures 6 inches in all, ending with a p row.

To Shape Armhole: Bind off 5 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows; then dec. 1 st at end of each row until 66 sts remain. With wrong side of work toward you, break off, attach Angora and work as for lower border until 4 Angora sections have been made. Break off, attach Saxony and work 2 rows. Then k across 1st 21 sts, bind off next 24 sts (thus starting neck shaping), k across remaining 21 sts. Hereafter work over these 21 sts only. To shape shoulder, bind off 7 sts at beginning of each row until all sts are bound off. Break off, attach yarn at base of neck edge, and work other shoulder to correspond.

Right Front. Starting at lower border with Angora, cast on 46 sts and work to correspond with lower border of Back. Then, with Saxony, work in stockinette st for 6 inches, keeping 6 sts of center front edge k sts.

To Shape Armhole: Starting at underarm, bind off 5 sts at beginning of next row; then dec. 1 st at end of every other row at same edge until 30 sts remain. Piece should now measure 2 inches from 1st row of armhole shaping; if not, add a few more rows. Then bind off 5 sts at front edge (thus starting neck shaping), k 1, k 2 tog. (a decrease), and k across. Work in pattern, making another dec. as before, 1 st in from neck edge, on next 3 k rows, ending with a p row. To shape shoulder, bind off 7 sts at beginning of each row until all sts are bound off.

Left Front. Work to correspond with Right Front, reversing shapings.

Sleeves. Starting at bottom, cast on 48 sts and work as for lower border of Back until 3 Angora sections have been made. Then, with Saxony, k 2 rows, increasing 12 sts at equal distances apart on the 1st row (60 sts). Hereafter work straight until piece measures 7 inches in all. To shape shoulder, bind off 2 sts at beginning of each of next 4 rows, and dec. 1 st at end of each row until 24 sts remain. Bind off.

Neck Band. With right side of work toward you, pick up 30 sts along Right Front, 36 sts along Back, and 30 sts along Left Front. K across these 96 sts.

Next row: K 1, * yarn over twice, k 1. Repeat from * across. Bind off, allowing the 2 yarn overs of previous row to drop off needle.

Sew up underarm and shoulder seams. Sew up sleeve seams and sew sleeves in. Run ribbon under and over spaces around neck edge, and tie as in illustration.
