MATERIALS REQUIRED—American Thread Company "Dawn" Pompadour Yarn.

Sweater. 4 Balls White, Baby Pink or Baby Blue.
Bonnet. 2 Balls, White or Colors.
1 Pair Bone Knitting Needles No. 3.

Gauge. 15 sts = 2 inches. 22 rows = 2 inches.

BACK. Cast on 74 sts and work in ribbing of K 2, P 2 for 2 inches, then continue in stockinette st. (K 1 row P 1 row) until back measures 7 inches from the be­ginning.

Next 2 Rows—Bind off 4 sts at the beginning of each row then decrease 1 st each side of every K row twice.

When armhole measures 3½ inches, bind off 19 sts at the beginning of next 2 rows then bind off remaining sts for back of neck.

FRONT. Cast on 74 sts and work in ribbing for 2 inches ending with P 2, K 2 row.

Next row begin pattern1st Row—K 6, * P 2, K 2, repeat from * to the last 6 sts, K 6.

2nd Row—P 6, work in ribbing to the last 6 sts, P 6, repeat the last 2 rows.

5th & 7th Rows—K 10, work in ribbing to the last 10 sts, K 10.

6th & 8th Rows—P 10, work in ribbing to the last 10 sts, P 10.

9th & 11th Rows—K 14, work in ribbing to the last 14 sts, K 14.

10th & 12th Rows—P 14, work in ribbing to the last 14 sts, P 14.

13th & 15th Rows—K 18, work next 38 sts in ribbing, K 18.

14th & 16th Rows—P 18, work next 38 sts in ribbing, P 18.

17th & 19th Rows—K 22, work next 30 sts in ribbing, K 22.

18th & 20th Rows—P 22, work next 30 sts in ribbing, P 22.

21st & 23rd Rows—K 26, work next 22 sts in ribbing, K 26.

22nd & 24th Rows—P 26, work next 22 sts in ribbing, P 26.

25th & 27th Rows—K 30, work next 14 sts in ribbing, K 30.

26th & 28th Rows—P 30, work next 14 sts in ribbing, P 30.

29th & 31st Rows—K 34, work next 6 sts in ribbing, K 34.

30th & 32nd Rows—P 34, work next 6 sts in ribbing, P 34. Continue in stockinette st until front measures 7 inches from the beginning ending with Purl row.

Next 2 Rows—Bind off 4 sts at the beginning of each row.

Next Row—Decrease 1 st at each end.

Next Row—P 28, K 8, P 28.

Next Row—K across row decreasing 1 st at each end.

Next Row—P 27, K 8, P 27.

Next Row—Divide sts in half for front opening, attach another ball of yarn and work both sides at the same time, working the 4 sts on each side of front opening in K sts every row and the remainder of front in stockinette st.

When armhole measures 2¾ inches, bind off 9 sts at front edges then decrease 1 st at neck edges every row 3 times. When armhole measures 3½ inches bind off shoulder sts.

SLEEVES. Cast on 36 sts and work in ribbing of K 2, P 2 for 1½ inches.

Work the remainder of sleeve in stockinette st.

Next Row—Increase 1 st each side then increase 1 st each side every inch 5 times, work even until sleeve measures 7½ inches from the beginning.

Next 2 Rows—Bind off 4 sts at the beginning of each row then decrease 1 st each end of each K row until 20 sts remain, bind off loosely. Sew seams and sew sleeves in position. Pick up 52 sts around neck and work in ribbing of K 2, P 2 for ¾ inch.

BONNET. Cast on 34 sts and work in stockinette st for 3½ inches.

Next 2 Rows—Cast on 30 sts at end of each row and work even for 4 inches.

Next Row—K 34 sts, on next 25 sts, K 1, K 2 together then K remaining sts. Work 1 row even then work in ribbing of K 2, P 2, for 3 inches, bind off and sew seams. Gather center section of back to measure 2½ inches.

Pick up 76 sts across lower edge, 30 on each side and 16 in center and work in ribbing of K 2, P 2 for 1 inch. Bind off and finish with rosettes as illustrated.
