"Dawn" Shetland Floss.
3 Balls White or Colors.
4 Double Pointed Steel Knitting Needles No. 13.
Measurements—Length of leg, 14 inches—Length of foot, 11½ inches.
Cast on 3 needles 56 sts (20 on 1st needle, 20 on 2nd needle and 16 on 3rd needle) and work in ribbing of K 2, P 2 for 3 inches then K plain for 8 inches.
HEEL. Divide stitches, 1st needle 28 sts, 14 sts on 2nd and 3rd needle.
Working on 1st needle and always slipping the 1st st. *K 1 row, turn, P 1 row, turn, repeat from * until there are 27 rows.
On wrong side of work begin to turn heel, sl 1, P 14, P 2 together, P 1, turn. Sl 1, K 5, sl 1, K 1 pass sl st over K st, K 1 turn. Sl 1, P 6, P 2 tog, P 1, turn. Sl 1, K 7, sl 1, K 1 pass sl st over K st, K 1, turn. Sl 1, P 8, P 2 tog, P 1 turn. Sl 1, K 9, sl 1, K 1, pass sl st over K st, K 1, turn. Continue until there are 17 sts on needle, K back knitting the last 2 sts together (16 sts).
Pick up and K 13 sts on side of heel (1st needle) K sts of 2nd and 3rd needle on to one needle (2nd needle). Pick up 13 sts on other side of heel and take 8 sts from 1st needle (3rd needle).
1st Needle—K to within the last 3 sts, K 2 together, K 1.
2nd Needle—K even.
3rd Needle—K 1, sl 1, K 1 pass the sl st over K st, K to end of round. K 1 round even. Repeat these 2 rounds until there are 14 sts on 1st needle, 28 sts on 2nd needle and 14 sts on 3rd needle then K plain for 5½ inches.
TOE—1st Needle—K to within 3 sts of end, K 2 tog., K 1.
2nd Needle—K 1, Sl 1, K 1, pass sl st over K st, K to within 3 sts of end, K 2 tog., K 1.
3rd Needle—K 1, Sl 1, K 1, pass sl st over K st, K to end and K 2 rounds even. Repeat these 3 rounds 3 times then decrease every other round 5 times. K 5 sts of 1st needle on to 3rd needle, there should be 10 sts on each needle, break yarn leaving a 15 inch length, thread into a worsted needle, hold sock so needle is on your right and keeping work under needle weave front and back together as follows: * Pass needle through 1st st of front needle as if knitting and slip off needle, pass into 2nd st as if purling and leave st on needle, pass through 1st st of back needle as if purling and sl st off needle, pass through 2nd st of back needle as if knitting and leave st on needle, repeat from * until all sts are off needle. Fasten yarn at side of toe.
