Gauge: 15 sts = 2 inches.

Directions are given for size 12. Sizes 14 and 16 are given in brackets.

BACK: On No. 2 needles, cast on 94 (102, 110) sts and work in ribbing of K 1, P 1 for 3¾ (3¾, 3¾) inches. Change to No. 3 needles and work in stockinette st (K 1 row, P 1 row) increasing 1 st on each side every 6th row until there are 124 (132, 140) sts on needle. Work even until back measures 12¾ (13, 13¼) inches from the be­ginning ending with a P row.
Next 2 Rows—Bind off 7 (7, 7) sts at the beginning of each row.
Next 2 Rows—Bind off 3 (3, 3) sts at the beginning of each row, then decrease 1 st on each side every row until 94 (102, 110) sts remain. Work even until armhole meas­ures 5 (5¼, 5½) inches from 1st decreasing point, ending with a P row.
Next Row—Divide sts for back opening, work across 47 (51, 55) sts, place remaining sts on a holder for left side of back. Work even until armhole measures 7 (7¼, 7½) inches from 1st decreasing point ending at armhole edge.
Next Row—Bind off 8 (8, 9) sts at the beginning of row. Work 1 row even. Repeat last 2 rows once.
Next Row—Bind off 8 (9, 9) sts at beginning of row. Work 1 row even. Repeat last 2 rows once.
Bind off remaining 15 (17, 19) sts for back of neck.

LEFT SIDE: Cast on 5 sts for underlap, slip and K 47 (51, 55) sts from holder 52 (56, 60) sts.
Next Row—P across 47 (51, 55) sts, work in ribbing of K 1, P 1 over next 5 sts. Work even in stockinette st over the 47 (51, 55) sts and ribbing over the 5 sts of underlap. Work even until armhole measures 7 (7¼, 7½) inches from 1st decreasing point, ending at armhole edge. Bind off shoulder same as right shoulder.

FRONT: On No. 2 needles, cast on 94 (102, 110) sts and work in ribbing for 3¾ (3¾, 3¾) inches.
Next Row—K across 43 (47, 51) sts, slip next 8 sts on a holder for button band, cast on 8 sts, K across remaining 43 (47, 51) sts. Change to No. 3 needles and work same as back to underarm. Decrease armhole same as back armhole. Work even until armhole measures 4¾ (5, 5½) inches from 1st decreasing point ending with a P row.
Next Row—K across 47 (51, 55) sts place remaining 47 (51, 55) sts on a holder for right side.
Next Row—Bind off 5 (5, 5) sts at the beginning of row for neck edge, then bind off 4 (4, 4) sts at neck edge every other row 2 (2, 3) times, then decrease 1 st at neck edge every other row until 32 (34, 36) sts remain. Work even until armhole measures same as back armhole. Bind off shoulder same as back shoulder. Slip the 47 (51, 55) sts from holder and work right side in same manner reversing the decreasing and shaping.

SLEEVES: On No. 2 needles cast on 72 (76, 80) sts and work in ribbing for 2 (2, 2) inches, increasing 10 sts evenly spaced on last row of ribbing, 82 (86, 90) sts. Change to No. 3 needles and work in stockinette st in­creasing 1 st on each side every 6th row until there are 102, (106, 110) sts on needle. Work even until sleeve measures 11 (11¼, 11½) inches from beginning ending with a P row.
Next 2 Rows—Bind off 7 (7, 7) sts at the beginning of each row, then decrease 1 st at the end of every row until 52 (56, 60) sts remain. Then decrease 1 st on each side every row until 20 (22, 24) sts remain, bind off.

COLLAR: On No. 2 needles cast on 26 sts and work in ribbing for 7 inches, bind off. Work another section in same manner.

BUTTON BAND: Slip the 8 sts from holder on No. 2 needles and work in ribbing until band is same length as front to neck line, bind off.

FRONT LACE FRILL: On No. 3 needles cast on 144 (144, 144) sts loosely and work as follows:
1st Row—K 2 tog, 3 times, K 1, Y O, 6 times, * K 2 tog, 6 times, K 1, Y O, 6 times, repeat from * across row, end­ing with K 2 tog, 3 times.
2nd Row—P across row.
3rd and 4th Rows—K across each row. Repeat these 4 rows twice. Bind off by knitting 2 tog. Work another section in same manner.

CUFF FRILL: Cast on 108 sts and work same as front frill. Work another section in same manner.
With wrong side of back toward you, attach yarn at lower edge of back opening on right side and work 21 s c to neck edge, ch 1, turn.
Next Row—1 s c in each of 1 st 2 s c, * ch 2, skip 2 s c, 1 s c in each of the next 3 s c, repeat from * twice, ch 2, skip 2 s c, 1 s c in each of next 2 s c (4 button loops), cut yarn.

FINISHING: Block each section. Sew seams and sew sleeves in position easing in any fullness. Gather the front frill to required length. Sew to the 3rd row from center st of front. Gather other section and sew to 3rd row from center st on opposite side. Attach front band over edges of lace frills by sewing 7 buttons in position as illustrated. Sew buttons in position on back opening. Sew 2 sections of collar to neck edge having the 2 ends meet at center of neck in front and back. Gather cuff frills and sew to each cuff edge.
