MATERIALS—Lily Soft Spun Yarn:—1-ball each Lt. Green and White; Lily Sil-Tone Mercerized Crochet Cotton:—1-ball each Lavender, Purple, Aqua, Green, Baby Pink and Rose. No. 2 Knitting Needles. Crochet hooks sizes 10 and 1. Stamens.
To fit a tea pot about 6" high and 5½" wide.
With needles and Green Soft Spun Yarn, cast on 64 sts loosely. Work in K 2, P 2 ribbing for 14 rows. * Change to White and make 4 rows. Then 2 rows each Green, White and Green, 4 rows White and 14 Green. Repeat from * once. NEXT ROW—In White decrease to 32 sts by K 2 tog. P 2 tog. to end of row. NEXT 13 ROWS—K 1, P 1 ribbing. Bind off. Make 2 pieces. Sew sides tog. leaving space open for teapot handle and spout. With size 1 hook, work sc in Green around these openings. Gather top tightly.
CAP—In Green Soft Spun ch 5, sl st in 1st st. Ch 3, 15 dc in ring, sl st in top of ch-3. ROW 2—Ch 3, dc in same st, 2 dc in each dc around and join. ROW 3—Ch 3, dc in same st, (dc in next dc, 2 dc in next) repeated around and join. ROW 4—Widen in every 6th dc. ROW 5—Widen in every 7th dc. ROW 6—Widen in every 8th dc. Fasten off.
PLAIN PETUNIA—In Purple and size 10 hook, ch 8, sl st in starting st. Ch 3, 11 dc in ring, sl st in top of ch-3. ROW 2—Ch 3, dc in next 11 dc, sl st in ch-3. Ch 1, sc in same st, (hdc in 7 sts, 2 hdc in next st) 8 times around and around (20 sts in final row). Sc in 3 sts, sl st in next st. NEXT 2 ROWS—** Ch 3, dc in same st, (1 dc in next, 2 dc in next) repeated around and join. * Ch 5, tr in same st, 2 tr in each dc around and join. Fasten off. Make 3 in Purple and 4 in Lavender.
RUFFLED PETUNIA—Repeat to * in Rose. NEXT ROW—Repeat from ** to * again. EDGE—Ch 3, dc in same st, ch 1, dc in same st, * ch 1, tr in next dc, (ch 1, tr) twice in each of next 6 dc, ch 1, tr in next dc, (ch 1, dc) 3 times in next dc. Repeat from * around. Fasten off. Make 3 in Rose and 4 in Pink.
STEM—In Green Sil-Tone ch 20, sk 1, 19 hdc on ch. (Ch 6, tr in 6th ch from hook, ch 5, sl st in same st, sc in end of stem) 5 times, join with sl st around back of stem into base of 1st petal. Fasten off. Make 14. Tack stamens in flower and sew 5 calyx petals over base of flower tube. Repeat on each flower. LEAF—In Green Sil-Tone, ch 25, sk last ch, (sc, * hdc, 3 dc, 2 tr, 10 dtr, 2 tr, 3 dc and hdc) on ch, * 2 sc in end ch. Repeat from * to * on other side of ch. Sc in end ch, ch 10, sk last ch, 9 hdc on ch, sl st in leaf. Fasten off. Make 14.
With a pad of cloth, dampen back of leaves, flowers and stems with hot, thick starch. When dry, tack a circle of 8 flowers (2 of each color alternated) and 8 leaves around edge of Cap. Fasten remaining 6 flowers and leaves in center. Tack edge of Cap down around top of knitting. Run a strand of Green Soft Spun Yarn around bottom edge of knitting, gather to fit under tea pot and tie in a bow knot.
