Jack Frost Knitting Worsted—Main Color—2-oz. Contrasting Color—2 oz.

RIGHT MITTEN: With main color cast on 36 sts. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, in striped pattern as follows: * 4 rows main color, 2 rows contrasting color, 2 rows main color, 2 rows contrasting color; repeat from * for entire mitten. When piece measures 3 in. from lower edge, continuing pattern, K 1 row, P 1 row, for 6 rows, then start thumb gusset as follows: Row 1—K 17, increase 1 st in each of next 2 sts. K 17. Row 2—Purl. Row 3—K 17, increase 1 st in next st, K 2, increase 1 st in next st, K 17. Row 4—Purl. Row 5—K 17, increase 1 st in next st, K 4, increase 1 st in next st, K 17. Row 6—Purl. Continue increasing in the above manner having 2 more sts between increases every other row until there are 12 sts between increased sts (50 sts). P 1 row after last increased row. Divide work as follows: K 18; place on st-holder. K 14 (thumb sts). Place remaining 18 sts on 2nd st-holder. Work back and forth on the 14 thumb sts for 13 rows, then decrease tip of thumb as follows: Row 1—K 2 tog. across row. Row 2—P 1; P 2 tog. 3 times. Draw all sts tog. and fasten off. Sew thumb seam.
   Place the 18 sts from 1st st-holder to Needle. Attach yarn, pick up 3 sts at base of thumb. Place the 18 sts from 2nd st-holder to left hand Needle and K across row. Work in pattern until piece measures 3¼ in. from base of thumb. Decrease tip of mitten as follows: Row 1—K 1, K 2 tog., K 13, slip next st, K 1, P S S O, K 2 tog., K 1, K 2 tog., K 13, slip next st, K 1, P S S O, K 1. Row 2—Purl. Row 3—K 1, K 2 tog., K 11, slip 1 st, K 1, P S S O, K 2, K 2 tog., K 11, slip 1 st, K l, P S S O, K 1. Row 4—Purl. Row 5—K 1, K 2 tog., K 9, slip 1 st, K 1, P S S O, K 2, K 2 tog., K 9, slip 1 st, K 1, P S S O, K 1. Row 6—Purl. Row 7—K 1, K 2 tog., K 7, slip 1 st, K 1, P S S O, K 2, K 2 tog., K 7, slip 1 st, K 1, P S S O, K 1. Row 8—Purl.
   Weave or sew tip of mitten tog. Sew side seam.
