MATERIAL:
    For Sweater: 3 skeins Knitting Worsted (4 oz. skein)
    For Hat: 1 skein Knitting Worsted (4 oz. skein)
  1  pair S.P. Knitting needles No. 4 (3½ mm.) and No. 6 (4½ mm.)
  1  set D.P. knitting needles No. 3 (3¼ mm.)
GAUGE: 5½ sts. = 1 inch
PATTERN:
    1st to 4th row incl.: K2, P2.
    5th row: * K2, P6 repeat from * across row end P6.
    6th row: * K6, P2 repeat from * across row end P2.
  Repeat  5th and 6th rows twice more.
  11th to 14th row incl.: K2, P2.
  15th row: P4, * K2, P6 repeat from * across row end P2.
  16th row: K2, * P2, K6 repeat from * across row end K4.
Repeat  15th and 16th rows twice more.
Repeat  these 20 rows for pattern.
BACK: Cast on 88 sts. with No. 4 needles and work in ribbing K2, P2 for 4 inch. Change to No. 6 needles and pattern. With 88 sts. work even until the entire piece measures 13 inch. or any des. length to underarm. Bind off for armhole at the beg. of the next 2 rows 6 sts., at the beg. of the next 2 rows 2 sts. (72 sts. left). Work even for 6¾ inch. from the first binding off. Bind off for shoulders at the beg. of the next 4 rows 10 sts., rem. 32 sts. put on a safety pin.
FRONT: Work front the same as back until 3 inch. from the first binding off. Work over  26 sts. and slip them to a holder. Bind off for neck 20 sts. and work over rem.  26 sts. Bind off 2 sts. every other row at neck edge until 20 sts. are left  over. Work as high as back and bind off for shoulder at armhole edge 10 sts.  twice.
  Work  other side of neck to correspond.
SLEEVE: Sew up shoulder seam and right side facing you, pick up 72 sts. with No. 6 needles and work in pattern for 3 inch. Decrease 1 st. at the beg. and at the end of every 6th row until 48 sts. are left over. Work even until the whole sleeve measures 13½ inch. or any desired length. Decrease to 44 sts. in next row. K2, P2 for 3 inch. on No. 4 needles. Bind off. Work the other sleeve to correspond.
NECK: With No. 3 sock needles pick up, right side facing you, 92 sts. and K2, P2 for 3½ inch. Bind off loosely K as K and P as P.
FINISHING: Sew up side and sleeve seams and steam lightly.
HAT
Cast on 104 sts. with No. 4 needles and work in ribbing K2, P2 for 4 inch. Change to No. 6 needles and pattern and increase at even intervals across the first row 8 sts. Work even for 5½ inch. Change to ribbing K2, P2, work even for ¾ inch. Next row: * K2 tog., P2 tog. Repeat from * across row. Work even K1, P1 for 4 rows. Break yarn leaving a 7 inch. end. Thread a tapestry needle with this end and run twice through rem. sts. Pull sts. tog. and fasten off tightly on wrong side. Sew up back seam and steam lightly.
