Make a chain about 24 inches long (5 ch sts make 1 inch). 1st row: Dc in 4th ch from hook, 2 dc in next ch, dc in next 58 dc (66 dc, 74 dc) 2 dc in each of next 2 ch. Cut off remaining chain. Ch 3, turn.

2nd and 3rd rows: Dc in 1st dc, 2 dc in next dc (2 sts increased), dc in each dc across to within last dc, 2 dc in last dc, 2 dc in top st of turning ch (2 more sts increased). Ch 3, turn. 4th to 6th rows incl: Dc in each dc across and in top st of turning ch. Ch 3, turn. 7th to 9th rows incl: Work as before, decreasing 2 dc at both ends of row—to decrease 2 dc, work off 2 dc as 1 dc, twice. Fasten off at end of 9th row. Count across 15 dc (19 dc, 23 dc) from each end and mark with a pin.

Fold piece in half, then sew seam at bottom of foot and along front edge to pin marks.

CUFF … Attach thread at seam of center front. 1st rnd: * Sc in next dc, ch 1, skip 3 dc, in next dc make 5 loose dc's (each to measure about 1 inch) with ch 1 between (shell is made), ch 1, skip 3 dc. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 1, sl st in 1st sc. 2nd rnd: Ch 4 loosely, in same place as sl st make 2 loose dc's with ch 1 between, * ch 1, sc in center dc of next shell, ch 1, shell in next sc. Repeat from * around, ending with 2 loose dc's and ch 1 between at base of starting chain, ch 1, sl st in 3rd st of ch-4. 3rd rnd: Sc in same place as sl st, * ch 1, shell in next sc, ch 1, sc in center dc of next shell. Repeat from * around. Join. 4th rnd: Same as 2nd rnd, making p's instead of ch-1's between loose dc's of shells—to make a p, ch 3, sc in 3rd ch from hook. Join and fasten off.

CORD TRIMMING (Make 4) … Ch 5 loosely. Join. * Ch 10, 3 dc in 3rd ch from hook and 3 dc in each remaining ch across, sc in ring. Repeat from * 3 more times. Fasten off.

CORD (Make 2) … Measure off 6 strands each 1¼ yards long. Twist these strands, then double the twisted strands and give them another twist in the opposite direction. Pass cord through spaces between shells at base of cuff and sew a trimming at each end of cord.
