To Shape Armholes: Bind off 4 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows. Then dec. 1 st at end of each row until 66 sts remain. Work straight until piece measures 5½ inches from 1st row of armhole shaping. To shape shoulders, bind off 7 sts at beginning of each row until 24 sts remain. Bind off.

Front. Work exactly as for Back until there are 66 sts on needle. On next row k 1st 30 sts, then work in moss st across next 6 sts, k remaining 30 sts. Following row: P 30, (k 1, p 1) 3 times, turn (thus starting center front opening). Work the next 6 rows in stockinette st, keeping 6 sts at front opening in moss st. Then, on next row and every 6th row thereafter, make a buttonhole. (To make a buttonhole, starting at front opening, work 3 sts in moss st, bind off 2 sts, k 1; then, on next row, cast on 2 sts to replace those bound off) until 2 buttonholes are made. On next row, bind off 12 sts at neck edge once and 1 st at neck edge every other row 3 times. Work straight until piece measures 5½ inches from 1st row of armhole shaping. To shape shoulder, bind off 7 sts at armhole edge 3 times. Attach yarn to base of front opening, cast on 6 sts and work opposite side to correspond, omitting buttonholes.

Sleeves. Starting at wrist with No. 4 needles, cast on 38 sts of main color and work in ribbing of k 1, p 1 for 4 inches. Change to No. 5 needles and k across, making 8 increases at equal distances apart (46 sts). Continue in stockinette st, increasing 1 st at both ends every inch until there are 62 sts on needle. Work straight until piece measures 13½ inches. To shape top of sleeve, bind off 4 sts at beginning of next 2 rows. Then dec. 1 st at end of each row until 26 sts remain. Bind off.

Collar. With main color, cast on 75 sts and work in moss st for 6 rows, decreasing 1 st in last row. Hereafter, work in stockinette st, keeping the 1st and last 5 sts in moss st, working center 64 sts as follows: Attach color A. 7th row: * K 1 main, k 1 A, k 2 main. Repeat from * across. 8th row: * P 1 main, p 1 A. Repeat from * across. 9th row: * K 3 main, k 1 A. Repeat from * across. Break off color A. Continue in stockinette st with main color for 3 rows. Attach color B. 13th row: K 2 B, * k 4 main, k 3 B. Repeat from * across. 14th row: * P 1 main, p 2 B, p 2 main, p 2 B, p 7 main. Repeat from * across. 15th row: * K 2 main, k 4 B, k 8 main. Repeat from * across. Break off color B. Attach color C. 16th row: * P 3 main, p 2 C, p 4 main, p 4 C, p 1 main. Repeat from * across. 17th row: * K 2 main, k 1 C, k 2 main, k 1 C, k 2 main, k 6 C.
