REQUIREMENTS:

YARN: 20-ounces of 4-ply Knitting Worsted
NEEDLES: 1-pr. #3 single pointed
CROCHET HOOK: Bone #5
ANGORA: ½-ounce ball
GAUGE: 7 sts to an inch; 9 rows make an inch.

SWEATER BACK: Using the #3 needles, cast on 78 sts, and work in stockinette stitch (knit 1 row, purl 1 row) until the piece measures 3 inches. Now work in ribbing of k 1, p 1, for 2 inches. Change back and work in stockinette stitch for 3 inches more. (8 inches in all). Decrease 1 stitch at each side of the work every knit row 4 times. Continue in stockinette stitch until the piece measures 4 inches above the first decrease. Bind off all sts loosely.

FRONT: Cast on 39 sts on the #3 needles and work in stock­inette stitch for 3 inches. Change and work in ribbing of k 1, p 1, for 2 inches, now work in stockinette stitch for 3 inches. (8 inches in all). At one side of the work decrease 1 stitch (for underarm) every knit row 4 times. Now work even until the piece measures 2 inches above the first underarm decrease. At the neck edge (opposite the underarm decreases), bind off 4 sts once; decrease 1 stitch at the neck edge every row 7 times. Work even until the armhole measures 4 inches above first decrease. Bind off all sts. WORK THE OTHER SIDE TO CORRESPOND. SLEEVES: With the #3 needles cast on 36 sts and work in ribbing of k 1, p 1 for 2½ inches. Now work in stockinette stitch, increasing 1 stitch at each side of the work every ½ inch 10 times, (56 sts), Work even until the sleeve measures 9 inches in all. Decrease 1 stitch at each side of the work every row 7 times. Bind off the remaining sts loosely. MAKE THE OTHER SLEEVE THE SAME WAY. COLLAR: Cast on 70 sts and work in ribbing of k 1, p 1, for 2½ inches. Bind off loosely, knitting the knit sts, purling the purl sts. FINISHING SWEATER: Sew shoulder and side seams. Sew sleeve seams and sew into armhole matching underarm seams. CROCHETING: Use a #5 bone crochet hook. With the right side of the work facing you, tie yarn at left neck edge, s c along the front, keeping work flat, down to corner, 3 s c in corner st; s c along the bottom; 3 s c in corner st; s c up the right front. BUTTONHOLE ROW: Chain 1, turn; 1 s c in next st, * chain 3, skip 2 sts, 1 s c in next 6 sts, repeat from * down right front; finish remainder of row in s c to left neck edge. Break yarn Tie in angora and make 1 s c in each stitch around the edge. COLLAR: With angora make 1 row of s c around collar. Sew collar onto sweater. TRIMMING BONNET: Make 1 row of s c around edge of bonnet.

LEGGINGS: LEFT LEG: Starting at the cuff: With the #3 needles cast on 42 sts and work in ribbing of k 1, p 1, for 3 inches. NEXT ROW: K 7, * K 1, increase 1 stitch in the next stitch, repeat from * 14 times more, knit the last 5 sts. Purl all across the next row. Now work in stockinette stitch (knit 1 row, purl 1 row) for an inch. Increase 1 stitch at each side of the work. Repeat increase every inch, until you have 74 sts on the needle. Now work even until the piece measures 19 inches in all, ending with a knit row. At the beginning of the next purl row bind off 38 sts. finish purling the row. Knit back. Bind off 4 sts at the beginning of the next 9 purl rows. (This is the shaping for the top back part of the leggings).

RIGHT LEG: Work as the left leg till you come to the shap­ing at the top part of the leggings. Do the binding off at the beginning of knit rows, instead of purl rows.

GUSSET: Cast on 2 sts, and working in stockinette stitch increase 1 stitch at each side of the work every 3rd row, 9 times. (20 sts). Decrease 1 stitch at each side of the work every 3rd row until 2 sts remain. Bind off.

RIBBING AT TOP OF LEGGINGS: With the right side of the work facing you, pick up and knit 65 sts across the top. Work in ribbing of k 1, p 1, for 2 inches, bind off loosely, knitting the knit sts, purling the purl sts. Finish the top of the 2nd half the same way. FINISHING: Sew seams, sewing in the gusset at the same time. Gusset comes in with the widest part at the last increase and the narrowest part towards the top.

MITTENS: Cast on 36 sts and work in ribbing of k 1, p 1, for an inch. BEADING ROW: K 1,* yarn over, knit 2 sts together; repeat from * across row, ending with yarn over K 2 tog K 1. Work ribbing again for an inch. Change to the stockinette stitch and knit ½ inch, ending with a purl row. THUMB INCREASES: Knit 17 sts; increase 1 st in each of the next 2 sts; knit to end of row. Purl back. NEXT ROW: Knit 18 sts, place a marker on the needle. Increase 1 stitch in each of the next 2 sts; place a marker on the needle; knit to end of row. Purl across the next row. 3rd Inc. Knit to marker, slip marker to right hand needle; inc. 1 st in the next st, knit to within 1 st of the 2nd marker, increase 1 stitch in next st; slip marker; knit to end of row. Purl the next row. Repeat these last 2 rows until you have 12 sts between markers. End with purl row. SEPARATION: Knit to within first marker; slip these sts onto a stitch holder; knit the next 12 sts; place the remaining sts onto a st holder; at the end of the 12 sts that are on the needle cast on 2 sts and work in stockinette stitch for 1¼ inches, ending with a purl row. Knit 2 sts together across the next row, break yarn leaving 8 inches. Thread a darning needle and draw thru the sts, fasten tight on the wrong side of work, sew thumb. Place the sts from first st holder back onto the right hand needle; tie yarn in, pick up and knit 2 sts on the thumb, knit the sts from 2nd st holder. Now work in stockinette stitch for 2 inches. Tip Decrease: 1st dec: * knit 2 sts; knit 2 sts together, repeat from * across row, end­ing with knit 2 sts together. Purl next row, and every other row. 2nd dec: * k 1 st, knit 2 sts together, repeat from * across row, ending with knit 2 sts together. 3rd dec: Knit 2 sts together, across the row. Break yarn, leaving 10 inches. Thread a darning needle, draw thru the sts and fasten tightly on the wrong side of the work. Sew seam. Make the other mitten the same way.

CAP FOR SNOW SUIT: With the #3 needles cast on 25 sts for the lower edge of back. 1st row: P 1, k 1, p 1, k 1, p 1, (rib border); k 15 sts; p 1, k 1, p 1, k 1, p 1. 2nd row: K 1, p 1, k 1, p 1, k 1, (rib border); p 15 sts; k 1, p 1, k 1, p 1, k 1. Work 2 more rows as above. 5th row: Work 5 sts in ribbing; increase 1 stitch, work to within 6 sts of the end, increase 1 stitch in next st, work remaining 5 sts in rib border. Keeping 5 sts at each end of work in ribbing and the center sts in stockinette stitch. Increase 1 stitch inside the rib border every 4th row 5 times, (37 sts). Work 3 rows even after last increase. NEXT ROW: Work 5 sts in ribbing, 27 sts in stockinette stitch, 5 sts in ribbing, cast on 30 sts for side. NEXT ROW: Work 30 sts in stockinette stitch, 5 sts in ribbing, 27 sts in stockinette stitch, 5 sts in ribbing, cast on 30 sts. (97 sts). Continuing to work rib st on 5 sts each side of center 27 sts and stockinette st on the remaining sts; work even until 2 inches from cast on sts for the side, ending on the wrong side. NEXT ROW: Work 30 sts in stockinette st, 37 sts in ribbing, 30 sts in stockinette stitch. Work 7 rows more with 37 center st in ribbing and 30 sts each side in stockinette stitch. Discontinue rib st and work all sts in stockinette st for 2 inches, ending with a purl row. FRONT TURN BACK: Work all sts in ribbing, cast on 5 sts at the end of each of the next 2 rows. (107 sts). Work 8 rows more in ribbing. Bind off, purling the purl sts; knitting the knit sts. NECK BAND: Cast on 9 sts and work in ribbing of k 1, p 1, for 28 inches. Bind off. FINISHING: Sew 30 cast on sts each side to respective side edges of back. Sew edge of neck band to lower edge of bonnet holding in to desired size and leaving ends to tie. Turn front border over on the right side and sew 5 cast on sts and edge of border to neck band as illustrated.
