Size: 1 yr.

REQUIREMENTS:

YARN: 5-ounces of 3-ply Baby Yarn
NEEDLES: 1-pr. #3 single pointed, 1-pr. #1 single pointed.

GAUGE: 7½-sts to an inch.

BACK: Using the #3 needles, cast on 93 sts. Work in knit every row for 30 rows, (15 ridges). ROW 1: * k 14 sts, p 7, repeat from * to end of row, k 14 sts. ROW 2: * p 14 sts, k 7, repeat from * across row, ending with p 14 sts. Repeat these last 2 rows until 14 rows have been made in all. Now work in stockinette stitch until the piece measures 8½-inches in all. UNDERARM SHAPING: Bind off 3 sts at the beginning of the next 2 rows, (once at each side). Decrease 1 stitch at each side of the work every knit row, 3 times. Now work even in stock­inette stitch until the armhole measures an inch from the bind off. NEXT ROW: (Right side of work) K 8, * p 7; k 2 tog, 7 times; repeat from * across to within the last 29 sts; k 2 tog, 7 times; p 7, k 8. 1st row: P 8, * k 7, p 7, repeat from * across row, ending with p 8. 2nd row: K 8, * p 7, k 7, repeat from * across row, ending with p 7, k 8. Repeat these last 2 rows for ¾-inch. Now work 7 ridges of garter st, (k 14 rows). Work in stockinette stitch until the complete armhole measures 4½ inches in all. SHOULDERS: Bind off 5 sts at the beginning of the next 8 rows, (20 sts for each shoulder). Bind off the remaining sts loosely for the back of the neck.

LEFT FRONT: Using the #3 needles cast on 62 sts and work border as on back. ROW 1: K 14, p 7, k 14, p 7, knit to end of row. (right side of work). ROW 2: K 11 sts, (this is the garter st border all the way up the front); p 9 sts, k 7, p 14, k 7, p 14. Repeat these last 2 rows, until 14 rows have been completed. Now work in stockinette stitch, keeping the 11 sts of the front border in garter st, until the piece measures the same as the back up to the underarm. With the right side of the work facing you at the underarm edge bind off 3 sts once; decrease 1 st at the underarm edge every knit row, 3 times. Work even until the armhole measures an inch above the underarm bind off, ending with a purl row. NEXT ROW: K 8 sts, p 7; knit 2 sts together-7 times; p 7; knit 2 sts together, 4 times; k 12, (45 sts). 1st row: K 11, p 5, k 7, p 7, k 7, p 8. 2nd row: K 8, p 7, k 7, p 7, knit to end. Repeat these last 2 rows for ¾-inches. Knit 7 ridges of garter st, (14 rows). Now work even in stockinette stitch until the armhole measures 3½ inches above the underarm bind off. At the neck edge bind off 19 sts once; 3 sts twice. Work even until the armhole measures the same as the back up to the shoulder. From the armhole edge bind off 5 sts, 4 times.

RIGHT FRONT: Work opposite to left front, keeping garter 11 sts up the front edge. At the bind off row make the first buttonhole by binding off 5 sts in center of garter 11 sts. On the row back, cast on 5 sts above those bound off. Space 3 buttonholes 1¼-inches apart.

SLEEVES: Cast on 37 sts and work 7 ridges in garter st, Now work 8 rows of ribbing of k 2, p 2. NEXT KNIT ROW: Knit across, increasing to 55 sts. Work in stockinette stitch until the sleeve measures 7½-inches in all. UNDERARM: Bind off 3 sts at the beginning of the next 2 rows, (once at each side). Decrease 1 stitch at each side of the work every knit row 8 times. Decrease 1 stitch at each side of the work every row 4 times. Bind off the remaining sts. FINISHING: Sew shoulder seams, underarm and sleeve seams. Sew sleeves into armhole matching underarm seams and easing in any fullness at the top. COLLAR: Pick up and knit 66 sts around neck edge. P 2, k 2 for 8 rows. NEXT ROW: Knit across, increasing to 88 sts. Now knit every row until the collar measures 1¼-inches in all. Bind off loosely.

BONNET:Using the #3 needles cast on 92 sts. Work in garter st for an inch. Change to #1 needles and knit across row, decreasing 20 sts across row. Now work in ribbing of p 2, k 2, for ¾-inches. Change back to the #3 needles and work as follows: K 31 sts, increase 1 st in each of the next 10 sts; knit remaining 31 sts, (82 sts). Work in stockinette stitch until the piece measures 3½-inches from the start of ribbing, ending with a purl row. NEXT ROW: K 31 sts, p 7, k 7, p 7, knit 30 sts. 2nd row: P 30 sts, k 7, p 7, k 7, p 31 sts. Repeat these last 2 rows until 8 rows have been completed. Knit 8 rows, (4 ridges). On the next row decrease to 72 sts. Bind off 25 sts at the begin­ning of the next 2 rows. On the remaining 22 sts, increase 1 st in every other st, (33 sts). Now work even in stockinette stitch until the piece measures the same length as the bound off 25 sts. Bind off all sts. Sew bound off sides to this piece. NECK BAND: With the #1 needles and the right side of work facing you, pick up and knit sts around the neck edge and work in ribbing of p 2, k 2, for ¾-inches. Bind off, knitting the knit sts, purling the purl sts.
