REQUIREMENTS:
YARN: 8 oz. Knitting Worsted Main Color (M C).
6 oz. Knitting Worsted Contrasting Color (C C).
Use Double Yarn throughout.
NEEDLES: 1-pr. size 9.
1-pr. size 11.
7 buttons

GAUGE: 3 st = 1 inch

PATTERN STITCH:
Row 1: With C C knit.
Row 2: With C C purl.
Row 3: With M C k 1, * slip 1 st keeping yarn in back of work, k 1, repeat from * across row.
Row 4: With M C purl.
Row 5: Repeat row 1.
Row 6: Repeat row 2.
Row 7: With M C K 2, * slip 1 st keeping yarn in back of work, k 1, repeat from * across row.
Row 8: Repeat row 4.

BACK: With M C and size 9 needles cast on 42 sts and working in ribbing of k 1, p 1, for 2 in. Change to size 11 needles and work in pattern until piece measures 10 in. from beg. Cast off 3 sts at beg of the next 2 rows. Dec 1 st at each end of work every other row 2 times. Work even until armhole measures 6 in. Cast off 5 sts at the beg of the next 4 rows. Place remaining sts on a holder.

RIGHT FRONT: With size 9 needles cast on 23 st. With M C color k 4, * k 1, p 1, repeat from * to end of row. Work in ribbing keeping the first 4 sts in seed stitch for front border. When ribbing measures same as back change to size 11 needles and work in pat­tern keeping the first 4 sts in M C. When work measures same as back to underarm cast off 3 sts at under arm edge. Dec 1 st every other row at same edge 2 times. Work even until piece measures 3½ in. At neck edge cast off 4 st. Dec 1 st every other row until there are 10 sts on the needle. Cast off 5 st every other row 2 times.

LEFT FRONT: Make same as right front but reverse shaping.

SLEEVES: With size 9 needles and M C cast on 26 st. Work in ribbing for 2½ in. Change to size 11 needles and work in pattern st inc 1 st each end of work every 6th row. When there are 32 st on the needle work even until piece measures 11 in. At the beg of the next 2 rows cast off 3 st. Dec 1 st at each end of work every other row until piece measures 2 inches from first cast off sts. Cast off 3 sts at the beg of next 4 rows. Cast off remaining sts. Sew shoulder seams.

COLLAR: With size 9 needles pick up 44 sts around neck edge including those from holder. Work in ribbing for 1 in. Change to size 11 needles and work until piece measures 3 in. in all. Cast off very loosely.

Sew remaining seams. Sew buttons on left side 2 in. apart. Stretch 1 st opposite button for buttonhole and work around with single yarn. Block.
