Boys Cable Knit Sweater Pattern #927

Size 8(10-12)

REQUIREMENTS:
SPORTS YARN: (Nylon and Wool Fingering Size or 3-Ply Nylon)
6 oz. for size 8 main color.
8 oz. for size 10 and 12 main color.
2 oz. for contrasting color.
NEEDLES: 1-pr. size 1. 1-pr. size 4.

GAUGE: 8 sts = 1 inch

CABLE ST PATTERN: To be worked on 6 sts as designated.
Row 1: Place 3 sts on double pointed needle, hold in back of work, k next 3 sts, k 3 sts from double pointed needles.
Row 2 and all even rows: Purl.
Rows 3 thru 8: Knit.
Row 9: Same as row 1
Row 10: Purl.
Repeat these 10 rows for pattern.

BACK: With size 1 needles cast on with contrasting color 106 (114-122) sts. Work in k 2, p 2, ribbing for 2 inches. Change to size 4 needles and main color yarn. Row 1: K 15(19-23) * 6 sts in cable pattern, k 12, repeat from * across row. Row 2: Purl. Repeat these 2 rows and working in cable pattern until piece measures 11(12-14) inches.

SHAPE ARMHOLE: At the beg of next 2 rows bind off 8 sts once and dec 1 st each side of work every other row 3 times. When armhole measures 4½(5-5½) inches change to contrasting color and size 1 needles and work in k 2, p 2, ribbing for 2 inches. Bind off loosely in ribbing.

FRONT: Same as back.

SLEEVE: With size 1 needles and contrasting color cast on 56(62-70) sts. Work in ribbing for 2 inches. Change to main color and size 4 needles. K 25(28-32), work 6 sts in cable pattern sts, k 25(28-32). Work same as back increasing 1 st each side of work every 6th row until there are 82(90-98) sts on the needle. Work even un­til piece measures 14(15-15½) inches.

SHAPE CAP: At the beg of next 2 rows bind off 8 sts. Dec 1 st at each end of work every other row for 3(3½-4) inches. Then dec 1 st each end of work every row until there are 20(26-32) remain­ing. Bind off remaining sts. Sew shoulder seams 2 inches in from side at neck. Sew in sleeves. Trim with contrasting color running thru cable.
