Slip On with Ribbed Yoke Pattern

Directions are for size 1. Changes for sizes 2, 3 and 4 are in parentheses.

MATERIALS:
NOMOTTA Non-Shrink Mothproof Nylon or Baby Wool
3 (3-4-4) 1-oz. balls
1 pair each of needles size 1 and 2
steel crochet hook size 4
4 small pearl buttons

GAUGE: 8 sts = 1 inch; 12 rows = 1 inch

PATTERN FOR YOKE:
ROW 1: (right side): Work in rib­bing of P 2, K 2 across row.
ROW 2: Purl across. Repeat these 2 rows for pattern.

BACK: With size 1 needles, cast on 84 (88-92-96) sts. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1 for 1 (l½-l½-2) inches. Change to size 2 needles and work in Stockinette-st until back measures 6½ (7-7½-8) ins from start. Shape Armholes: Bind off 4 (4-4-6) sts at beginning of next 2 rows; 76 (80-84-84) sts remain. Work straight for 1 (l½-l½-2) ins. Yoke; Starting and ending with K 1, work in Yoke Pattern until armholes measure 4 (4½-4¾-5) ins straight up from bound-off sts. Bind off all sts.

FRONT: With size 1 needles, cast on 84 (88-92-96) sts. Work ribbing same as for back. Change to size 2 needles and work as follows:
Row 1 (right side): K 37 (39-41-43) sts, P 2, K 2 across next 10 sts, K 37 (39-41-43) sts. Row 2: Purl across. Repeat these 2 rows until front measures 6½ (7-7½-8) ins from start.

Shape Armholes same as for back and work straight to be­ginning of yoke.

Yoke: Work same as for back until armholes measure 2½ (2½-3-3) ins above bound-off sts, ending on wrong side.

Shape Neck: Work across 27 (28-29-29) sts (left shoulder), bind off loosely next 22 (24-26-26) sts for neck, work to end of row. Both sides may be worked at the same time, using 2 balls of yarn. Work straight until armhole measures same as back. Bind off all sts. Sew shoulder seams from armhole to neck edge for 1 inch leaving remainder of shoulder open.

SLEEVES: With right side facing you and using size 2 needles, pick up and knit about 64 (68-70-72) sts around armhole edge. Work in Stockinette-st for 3 (3-3½-3½) ins. De­crease 1 st at each side of next row. Repeat this decrease every 8th row 2 (3-3-4) times more; 58 (60-62-62) sts remain. Work straight until sleeve measures 6 (6½-7-7½) ins straight down from underarm, decreasing 8 (10-10-10) sts across last purl row; 50 (50-52-52) sts remain. Change to size 1 needles and work in ribbing of K 1, P 1 for 1 (1½-l½-2) ins. Bind off loosely in ribbing.

FINISHING: Press lightly and sew seams. Work 1 row of sc around neck and shoulder opening. Work 2 Buttonloops at each front shoulder as fol­lows: Starting at shoulder seam, work 1 sc in each of next 2 sts, *ch 5, skip 2 sc, 1 sc in each of next 3 sts; repeat from * across shoulder.
