Directions are for 6-month to 1 year size. Changes for 2 to 3 year size are in parentheses.

MATERIALS:
NOMOTTA Mothproof Germantown Zephyr (matched dye lots)
2 1-oz skeins
1 set 10-inch double-pointed (dp) needles size 5

GAUGE: 6 sts = 1 inch; 8 rounds = 1 inch

Starting at top, cast on 8 sts. Divide sts on 3 needles. Join, being careful not to twist sts. Knit around increasing 1 stitch in each st; 16 sts. Knit next round slipping a marker on needle after every 2nd st (8 markers). Knit next round increasing 1 stitch after each marker (8 sts increased in round). Keeping a pattern of 7 (8) knit rounds and 1 purl round (to form a ridge), continue to increase 8 sts in every other round, always having 1 stitch more between markers after each increase round until there are 128 (144) sts in round. Work straight for 5 rounds. Discontinue the purl round and knit around decreasing 1 stitch after each marker every 4th round twice, then every other round until 88 (96) sts remain in round. Work firmly in ribbing of K 1, P 1 for 6 rounds. Bind off loosely in ribbing on next round.

Trim: Cast on 6 sts. Divide sts on 3 needles. Join, being careful not to twist sts. Knit 6 rounds. Break yarn leaving a long end. Draw end through all sts tightly, fasten end and sew to top of Beret.
