NOTE: When changing colors, always twist the unused color around the other to prevent making holes, being careful not to pull yarn up too tightly. Pattern is worked in stockinette st (k 1 row, p 1 row). Chart shows one half of each row. To complete row, omit center stitch, then follow row back to beginning.

BACK Starting at lower edge with Blue and No. 4 needles, cast on 107 (113, 119, 125) sts. 1st row (wrong side): P 1, * k 1, p 1. Repeat from * across. 2nd row: K 1, * p 1, k 1. Repeat from * across. Repeat last 2 rows for 2 inches ending with first row. Change to No. 7 needles and p 1 row. Now work in pattern as follows: 1st row (right side): With Blue k — (2, 5, 8), attach White; with White k 1 (2, 2, 2), * with Blue k 1, with White k 2, with Blue k 3, with White k 2. Repeat from * across ending with Blue k 1, with White k 1 (2, 2, 2), with Blue k — (2, 5, 8). 2nd row: With Blue p — (2, 5, 8), with White p 1 (2, 2, 2), * with Blue p 1, with White p 2, with Blue p 3, with White p 2. Repeat from * across ending with Blue p 1, with White p 1 (2, 2, 2), with Blue p — (2, 5, 8). Starting with 3rd row, follow chart until 72nd (72nd, 74th, 74th) row has been completed.

Armhole Shaping: Continuing with pattern, bind off 6 (6, 7, 8) sts at beg of next 2 rows. Dec 1 st at both ends of every other row 5 (6, 6, 7) times. Following chart, work even over remaining 85 (89, 93, 95) sts until 114th (116th, 120th, 122nd) row on chart is completed and length from first row of arm- hole shaping is 8½ (8¾, 9¼, 9½) inches. If necessary work even in pattern until depth of armhole is length indicated.

Shoulder Shaping: Bind off 10 (9, 11, 10) sts at beg of next 2 rows; bind off 9 (12, 12, 14) sts at beg of next 2 rows. Place remaining 47 sts on a stitch holder to be worked later.

FRONT Work same as Back until 79th row of chart is completed. Continuing armhole shaping work in pattern across 37 (40, 44, 45) sts, slip these sts just worked on a stitch holder to be worked later. Bind off next 15 center sts, work across remaining 37 (40, 44, 45) sts. Working over last set of sts only, continue armhole shaping and at same time dec 1 stitch at neck edge every other row 16 times in all. Work even in pattern over remaining 19 (21, 23, 24) sts until length of armhole is same as Back, ending at armhole edge.

Shoulder Shaping: 1st row: Bind off 10 (9, 11, 10) sts, complete row. 2nd row: Work across. 3rd row: Bind off remaining sts. Attach yarn to first st at neck edge and work other side of neck to correspond, reversing shaping.

SLEEVES Starting at lower edge with Blue and No. 4 needles, cast on 53 (55, 57, 59) sts. Work in k 1, p 1 ribbing for 3½ inches, increasing 5 sts evenly spaced on last row. Change to No. 6 needles and work in stockinette st, increasing 1 st at both ends of every 10th row 9 times in all. Work even over these 76 (78, 80, 82) sts until total length is 18½ (18½, 19, 19) inches.

Top Shaping: Bind off 6 (6, 6, 8) sts at beg of next 2 rows. Dec 1 st at both ends of every other row until length is 5½ (5¾, 6¼, 6½) inches from first row of top shaping. Bind off 3 sts at beg of next 4 rows. Bind off remaining sts.

NECKBAND … Sew shoulder seams. With right side facing, No. 4 double-pointed needles and Blue, pick up and knit 133 (139, 145, 151) sts around entire neck edge, including sts on stitch holder and omitting 15 bound-off sts at front edge. Work back and forth in k 1, p 1 ribbing for 2¼ inches, ending on wrong side. Break off Blue, attach White and k next row. Continue with White in k 1, p 1 ribbing until total length is 2¾ inches. Bind off loosely in ribbing.

Block to measurements. Sew side and sleeve seams. Sew in sleeves. Sew short edge of right side of neckband to bound- off edge of neck; then sew left side of neckband neatly in same place.
