NOTE: When changing colors, always twist the unused color around the other to prevent holes. Chart shows one half of each row. To complete row, omit center stitch, then follow row back to beginning. Pattern is worked in stockinette stitch (k 1 row, p 1 row); except the 4th and 30th rows which are knit instead of purl.

BACK Starting at lower edge with Wine and No. 1 needles, cast on 112 (120, 128, 136) sts. Work in k 2, p 2 ribbing for 2 (2½, 3, 3½) inches, increasing 1 st on last row. Change to No. 3 needles and work in pattern as follows: 1st row: K across. 2nd row: P across. Drop Wine, attach White. 3rd and 4th rows: With White, k across. 5th and 6th rows: With Wine, repeat first and 2nd rows. Starting with 7th row, follow chart until the 52nd row has been completed. Repeat first to 32nd rows incl once more. With Wine, k 2 rows.

Armhole Shaping: Change to No. 2 needles. Bind off 5 (6, 7, 8) sts at beg of next 2 rows. Dec 1 st at both ends of every other row 5 (6, 7, 8) times. Work even on 93 (97, 101, 105) sts until length from first row of armhole shaping is 5½ (6, 6½, 7) inches, ending with a p row.

Shoulder Shaping: Bind off 7 (7, 8, 8) sts at beg of next 6 (4, 4, 4) rows. Bind off — (8, 7, 9) sts at beg of next 2 rows.

Neck Facing: P next row for turning ridge. Continue in stockinette st on remaining 51 (53, 55, 55) sts, increasing 1 st at both ends of next 7 rows. Bind off loosely.

FRONT Work same as Back.

SLEEVES … Starting at cuff with Wine and No. 1 needles, cast on 52 (56, 60, 60) sts. Work in k 2, p 2 ribbing for 2½ inches, increasing 10 (12, 10, 12) sts evenly spaced on last row. Change to No. 2 needles and work in stockinette st, increasing 1 st at both ends of every 8th (8th, 8th, 9th) row until there are 88 (96, 100, 104) sts. Work even until total length is 13 (14, 15, 17) inches.

Top Shaping: Bind off 5 (6, 7, 8) sts at beg of next 2 rows. Dec 1 st at both ends of every other row until length is 2½ (3, 3½, 4) inches from first row of top shaping. Bind off 5 sts at beg of next 4 rows. Bind off remaining sts.
