BERNAT SESAME (Germantown Weight) (2 oz. pull pouches) — 2 Main Color (M C) — 1 Contrasting Color (C C)
1 pair BERNAT-Aero straight knitting needles No. 10 (Canadian Needles No. 4)
OR ANY SIZE NEEDLES THAT WILL GIVE THE STITCH GAUGE GIVEN BELOW

GAUGE: 3 sts = 1 inch; 5 rows = 1 inch

NOTE 1: Yarn is used double throughout.

NOTE 2: All increases are made by knitting in BACK of next st in row below.

Starting at lower edge, using M C double, cast on 40 sts. K 1, P 1 in ribbing for 3 rows. Row 4: K 1, P 1, bind off the next 2 sts, work in ribbing to end of row. Row 5: K 1, P 1 in ribbing, casting on 2 sts over those bound off previous row. Rows 6 and 7: Work even in ribbing. Row 8: Bind off 12 sts for chin strap, work in ribbing to end of row — 28 sts. Rows 9 and 11: K 4, P 20, K 4. Row 10 (right side): Knit. Row 12: K 9, inc 1 st, K 1, inc 1 st, K 8, inc 1 st, K 1, inc 1 st, K 9 — 4 sts increased. Row 13 and all uneven rows: K 4, P to last 4 sts, K 4. Row 14: K 10, inc 1 st, K 1, inc 1 st, K 10, inc 1 st, K 1, inc 1 st, K 10. Row 16: K 11, inc 1 st, K 1, inc 1 st, K 12, inc 1 st, K 1, inc 1 st, K 11. Row 18: K 12, inc 1 st, K 1, inc 1 st, K 14, inc 1 st, K 1, inc 1 st, K 12. Row 20: K 13, inc 1 st, K 1, inc 1 st, K 16, inc 1 st, K 1, inc 1 st, K 13. Rows 21, 23, 25 and 27: K 4, P 40, K 4. Rows 22, 24 and 26: K 48. Row 28: Cast on 12 sts for front of cap, K to end of row — 60 sts. Rows 29, 31 and 33: K 4, P 40, K 16. Rows 30 and 32: Knit. Row 34: Using C C double, knit. Row 35: Using C C double, purl. Row 36: Using C C double, * K 2 tog, K 4, repeat from * across row — 10 sts dec. Break off C C. Using M C, continue to work in stockinette st, dec 10 sts every other row, having 1 st less between decreases, until 10 sts remain. Break off yarn, leaving a 12 inch end.

FINISHING: Pull end through remaining sts and draw up tightly. Sew seam. Steam. Sew on button. Using M C, make a pompon and sew to center of cap.
