1 pair BERNAT-Aero straight knitting needles No. 11 (Canadian Needles No. 1)
OR ANY SIZE NEEDLES THAT WILL GIVE THE STITCH GAUGE GIVEN BELOW
1 BERNAT-Aero crochet hook Size J (Canadian Wool Crochet Hook No. 6)

GAUGE: 3 sts = 1 inch; 4 rows = 1 inch

Starting at lower edge, cast on 61 sts. Row 1: Purl. Row 2 (right side): P 1, * K 9, P 1, repeat from * across row. Repeat the last 2 rows until piece measures 5 inches, ending with Row 1. SHAPE TOP: Row 1: P 1, * sl 1, K 1, psso, K 5, K 2 tog, P 1, repeat from * across row — 12 sts dec. Row 2 and all even rows: Purl. Row 3: P 1, * sl 1, K 1, psso, K 3, K 2 tog, P 1, repeat from * across row — 12 sts dec. Row 5: P 1, * sl 1, K 1, psso, K 1, K 2 tog, P 1, repeat from * across row — 12 sts dec. Row 7: * K 2 tog, repeat from *, ending P 1. Row 9: Repeat row 7. Break off yarn, leaving a 12 inch end. Pull yarn through remaining 7 sts and draw up tightly. Sew back seam.

VISOR: Cast on 3 sts. Row 1 and all uneven rows: Purl. Row 2 (right side): Inc 1 st in each of 2 sts, K 1. Row 4: K 1, inc 1 st, sl 1, inc 1 st, K 1. Row 6: K 2, inc 1 st, sl 1, inc 1 st, K 2. Row 8: K 3, inc 1 st, sl 1, inc 1 st, K 3. Row 10: K 5, sl 1, K 5. Row 11: Purl. Repeat the last 2 rows 4 times more. Put a marker in work to mark center of visor. Repeat Rows 10 and 11 five times more. SHAPE 2ND END: Row 1: K 3, K 2 tog, sl 1, K 2 tog, K 3. Row 2 and all even rows: Purl. Row 3: K 2, K 2 tog, sl 1, K 2 tog, K 2. Row 5: K 1, K 2 tog, sl 1, K 2 tog, K 1. Row 7: K 2 tog, twice, K 1. Bind off remaining 3 sts.

FINISHING: Using yarn double, work 1 sl st in each P rib around cap. Fold visor on sl st and sew to center of cap. Steam seams. Make a pompon and sew to center of cap.
