MATERIAL:
1 ball Fingering Yarn 3 ply (1 oz. ball) Main Color
1 ball Fingering Yarn 3 ply (1 oz. ball) Light Contrasting Color
1 ball Fingering Yarn 3 ply (1 oz. ball) Dark Contrasting Color
1 set bone sock needles No. 1 and No. 2

Colors are referred to as:
M C - main color
L - light contrasting color
D - dark contrasting color

NOTE: For larger sizes use No. 2 and No. 3 needles

GAUGE: On No. 2 needles, 7½ sts. = 1 inch
On No. 3 needles, 6½ sts. = 1 inch

   With m.c. cast on 52 sts. with No. 1 needles, work in ribbing K1, P1 for 2 inch. Change to No. 2 needles and K even for 6 rounds, drop m.c. attach L and K for 2 rounds, drop L and pick up m.c. and K for 1 round, drop m.c., attach D and K for 2 rounds. Repeat these 11 rounds for stripe pattern on entire sock. Work in pattern until sock measures 5 inch. Break off L and D and mark the center back. Slip 13 sts. from each side of center back to one needle (first needle), divide the remaining 26 sts. for instep on 2nd and 3rd needle.
   Next round: drop m.c., K across first needle with different colored yarn (heel marker), break this yarn off, go back and pick up m.c. and K around in pattern (starting with first needle, changing colors in center of heel needle) until sock measures from heel marker 4½ inch. for size 8, 5 inch. for size 8½, or 3½ inch. less than any desired length. Break off L and D,
   Now start toe—decrease with m.c.: 1st round: K around. 2nd round: on first needle K1, slip 1, K1 and pull the slipped st. over the K st., K to within 3 sts., K2 tog. K1, on 2nd needle K1, slip 1, K1 and pull the slipped st. over the K st., K to end, on 3rd needle K to within 3 sts., K2 tog. K1. Repeat these 2 rounds until 20 sts. are left in round. Weave sts. together. Now start to work heel with m.c. Take out heel marker and pick up 26 sole sts. on first needle. The remaining 25 sts. divide between 2nd and 3rd needle. K1 round and pick up 1 st. each side of first needle to prevent a hole (53 sts. in round).
   1st round: K around
   2nd round: 1st needle K1, slip 1, K1 and pull the slipped st. over the K st., K to within 3 sts., K2 tog. K1, on 2nd needle, K1, slip 1 and pull the slipped st. over the K st. K to end, on 3rd needle K to within 3 sts., K2 tog. K1. Repeat the last 2 rounds until there are 21 sts. left in round. Weave the sts. together.
