Materials Required: AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY "DAWN" ORLON High Bulk Fingering Yarn or "DAWN" ORLON POMPADOUR High Bulk Fingering Yarn
5 ozs. Baby Pink.
1 oz. Baby Blue or colors of your choice.
1 pr. knitting needles No. 3.
Plastic crochet hook size E.
3 buttons. 2 ½ yds. ⅝ inch ribbon.
GAUGE: 7 sts = 1 inch. 10 rows = 1 inch.
BACK: With Pink cast on 78 stitches (sts). Work in garter st [knit (K) each row] for 6 rows. Work even in stockinette st [K 1 row, Purl (P) 1 row] until back measures 6 inches from beginning.
Next 2 Rows. Bind off 3 sts at beginning of each row.
Next 2 Rows. Bind off 2 sts at beginning of each row, then decrease 1 st on each side every other row twice (64 sts). Work even until armhole measures 3 ½ inches from 1st decreasing point.
Next 4 Rows. Bind off 9 sts at beginning of each row, bind off remaining 28 sts for neck.
LEFT FRONT: With Pink cast on 55 sts, work in garter st for 6 rows.
7th Row. K 33, P 2, * K 1, P 2, repeat from * 4 times, K 5 sts for border.
8th Row. K 5 sts for border, K 2, * P 1, K 2, repeat from * 4 times, P 33. Repeat last 2 rows until front measures 6 inches from beginning ending at armhole edge.
Next Row. Keeping pattern even bind off 3 sts at beginning of row, then bind off 2 sts at armhole edge every other row twice. Work even until armhole measures 2 ½ inches from 1st decreasing point, ending at front edge.
Next Row. Bind off 10 sts at beginning of row, then bind off 4 sts at neck edge every other row until 18 sts remain. Work even until armhole measures same as back armhole. Shape shoulders same as back shoulders. Mark position for 3 buttons evenly spaced, placing 1st marker 5 inches from bottom and top marker ½ inch from neck edge.
RIGHT FRONT: Work same as left front reversing the shaping and working buttonholes to correspond to markers working buttonholes 2 sts in from front edge.
BUTTONHOLES: K 2, yarn over (y o), K 2 together (tog), work to end of row. On the following row K the y o.
SLEEVES: With Pink cast on 42 sts, work in ribbing of K 1, P 1 for 2 inches. Work in stockinette st increasing 6 sts evenly spaced on first row, then increase 1 st on each side every ½ inch until there are 54 sts on needle. Work even until sleeve measures 6 inches from beginning or length desired.
Next 2 Rows. Bind off 5 sts at the beginning of each row, then decrease 1 st on each side every other row until 20 sts remain, bind off.
HOOD: With Pink cast on 81 sts, K across row.
2nd Row. K 4, P 73, K 4. Repeat last 2 rows until hood measures 6 ¼ inches from beginning.
Next Row. Keeping 4 garter sts each side throughout and remainder of sts in stockinette st decrease 10 sts evenly spaced across row, then work 3 rows even.
Next Row. Decrease 5 sts evenly spaced across row, then work 3 rows even.
Next Row. BEADING: * K 2 tog, y o, repeat from * across row ending with K 2 tog.
Next 4 Rows. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, bind off in ribbing.
Front Band for Hood: 1st Row. Cast on 25 sts, K 4, * P 2, K 1, repeat from * 4 times ending with P 2, K 4.
2nd Row. K 3, * P 1, K 2, repeat from * 5 times, ending with P 1, K 3.
Repeat these 2 rows until band measures about 15 ½ inches or to fit around front of hood, bind off.
FINISHING: Block each section. Sew shoulder, side and sleeve seams. Sew sleeves in position. With right sides together, leaving garter sts free at both fronts of Sacque, sew lower edge of hood around neck edge easing fullness across fronts. With right sides of hood together, fold in half and sew across top. Turn inside out. With right side of hood facing, sew band in position across front.
EDGE: With crochet hook and right side of front band toward you, attach Pink at neck edge and working up side of band, * chain (ch) 3, skip 2 sts, slip stitch (sl st) in next st, repeat from * to same space at opposite side of neck edge, cut yarn. With right side toward you, attach Pink at neck edge of left front and work edging down left front, across lower edge and up right front to opposite side at neck edge, cut yarn.
SMOCKING: Working on right side, use a double strand of Blue yarn throughout. Thread a tapestry needle and starting on 3rd row from lower border of front, * stitch firmly over 1st and 2nd K 1 rib from front border. Working upward repeat from * in every 8th row.
2nd Row. Starting on 7th row from border, work smocking in same manner working over 2nd and 3rd K 1 rib.
Work in same manner until 5 smocking rows are completed on fronts working last row over 5th rib and next knitted st as illustrated. Work 6 rows of smocking across front band on hood. Sew buttons in position. Lace ribbon through beading.
Starting at sole, with Pink cast on 38 sts and K 1 row.
2nd Row. Increase (inc) in 1st stitch, K 16, inc in next st, K 2, inc in next st, K 16, inc in last st.
3rd and all uneven Rows. K across each row.
4th Row. K 1, inc in next st, K 16, inc in next st, K 4, inc in next st, K 16, inc in next st, K 1.
6th Row. K 2, inc in next st, K 16, inc in next st, K 6, inc in next st, K 16, inc in next st, K 2.
8th Row. K 3, inc in next st, K 16, inc in next st, K 8, inc in next st, K 16, inc in next st, K 3.
10th Row. K 4, inc in next st, K 16, inc in next st, K 10, inc in next st, K 16, inc in next st, K 4.
12th Row. K 5, inc in next st, K 16, inc in next st, K 12, inc in next st, K 16, inc in next st, K 5.
Next 10 Rows. Work even in garter st (K each row).
Next Row. K 27 sts, inc in next st, K 6, inc in next st, K 3, turn. (The last 16 sts form the instep.)
Next Row. * K 1, P 2, repeat from * 4 times, slip 1, K 1, pass slip stitch over knit stitch (p.s.s.o.), turn.
Next Row. * P 1, K 2, repeat from * 4 times, P 2 tog, turn.
Repeat last 2 rows until 13 sts remain on each side of instep.
Without turning, K across 13 sts turn.
Next Row. K 16, K 2 tog, K 6, K 2 tog, K 16 (40 sts).
Next 3 Rows. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1.
Next Row. BEADING: K 2, * y o, K 2 tog, repeat from * across row. Keeping ribbing uniform, work even for 1 ½ inches, bind off in ribbing.
Sew sole and back seam. With Blue, work smocking same as on Sacque across 16 instep sts. Lace ribbon through beading, tie in bow. Work other bootie in same manner.
With Pink cast on 42 sts, work in ribbing of K 1, P 1 for 10 rows.
11th Row. BEADING: K 2, * y o, K 2 tog, repeat from * across row.
12th Row. K 3, * P 2, K 1, repeat from * 4 times, P 2, K 22.
13th Row. P 22, * K 2, P 1, repeat from * 4 times, K 2, P 3.
Repeat 12th and 13th rows until work measures 3 ¼ inches from beginning.
Next Row. * K 5, K 2 tog, repeat from * across row.
Next Row. K across row.
Next Row. * K 4, K 2 tog, repeat from * across row.
Next Row. K across row.
Next Row. * K 3, K 2 tog, repeat from * across row.
Next Row. K across row.
Next Row. * K 2, K 2 tog, repeat from * across row, cut yarn leaving an end long enough to draw through remaining sts. Thread into blunt needle, draw through stitches, and sew side of mitten. With Blue work smocking same as on Sacque, across front 19 sts of mitten. Lace ribbon through beading, tie in bow. Work other mitten in same manner.
