Gauge: 11 sts make 2 inches; 7 rows make 1 inch.

Back. Starting at bottom, cast on 91 sts and work in moss st (on one row, k 1, p 1, alternately; on next row, p over the k sts and k over the p sts) for 1 inch, decreasing 1 st at the end of the last row. Then work in stockinette st (k 1 row, p 1 row) until piece measures 5½ inches. On next row, with right side of work toward you, k 16, k 2 tog., k 12, k 2 tog., k 26, k 2 tog., k 12, k 2 tog., k 16 (86 sts). Work 3 rows straight. * Make another decrease row as before, having decreases fall directly over those of previous decrease row. Work 3 rows straight. Repeat from * 4 more times (66 sts remain). On next row, with right side of work toward you, k 13, inc. in next st, k 7, inc. in next st, k 21, inc. in next st, k 7, inc. in next st, k 14. Work 3 rows straight. Hereafter continue making 4 increases in every 4th row, having increases fall directly over those of previous row until 6 increase rows are made (90 sts). Work straight until piece measures 16 inches in all.

To Shape Armholes: Bind off 6 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows. Then dec. 1 st at end of each row until 64 sts remain. Work straight until piece measures 7 inches from 1st row of armhole shaping. To shape shoulders, bind off 3 sts at beginning of each row until 28 sts remain. Bind off.

Lining for Pocket: It is wise to have this made, ready to be worked into the Front. Cast on 19 sts and work in stockinette st for 3 inches. Then slip sts onto a stitch holder.

Right Front. Starting at bottom, cast on 53 sts and work as for Back for 1 inch, decreasing 1 st at underarm side on the last row and making a buttonhole in the 3rd row and every 11th row thereafter, 3 sts in from front edge, until 5 buttonholes in all are made. (To make a buttonhole, on one row bind off 2 sts; then, on next row, cast on 2 sts to replace those bound off.) Hereafter work in stockinette st, keeping the 7 sts at front edge in moss st. On the same row as 3rd buttonhole is made, make the buttonhole as before; then, p 1, k 1, k 18, and work in moss st across next 19 sts (pocket sts), k 8. Work 3 rows straight, keeping the 19 pocket sts in moss st. Next row: Work in pattern to within the 19 moss sts, bind off these 19 sts and continue across. Following row: P across to within the bound off sts, then p across 19 sts of pocket lining and continue across. Work straight until the 5th buttonhole is made. Then dec. 1 st on next row and every 6th row thereafter at front edge (inside border), until 46 sts remain. Work straight until underarm measures same as underarm of Back.

To Shape Armhole: Starting at underarm side, bind off 6 sts and continue across. Then dec. 1 st at armhole edge every other row, at the same time dec. 1 st at front edge (inside border) on 5th row and every 8th row thereafter until 31 sts remain. Work straight for 1 inch. On next row, starting at front edge, k 1, (p 1, k 1) 3 times, (k 2 tog., k 10) twice. Hereafter work as before, decreasing 2 sts in every 8th row twice, having decreases fall over those of previous decrease row. Then, on the following 5th row, dec. 1 st (inside border). Work straight until armhole measures same as armhole of Back. To shape shoulder, starting at armhole edge, bind off 3 sts every other row until 7 moss sts remain. Work over these 7 sts for 2 inches. Bind off.

Left Front. Work exactly as for Right Front, reversing shapings.

Sleeves. Starting at armhole edge, cast on 20 sts and work in stockinette st, casting on 2 sts at end of 1st 2 rows, and increasing 1 st at end of following 2 rows. Hereafter continue in this manner until there are 68 sts on needle. Then dec. 1 st at both ends of every 8th row until 48 sts remain. Work straight until underarm measures 15 inches, ending with a p row. Next row: K 2, * k 2 tog., k 1. Repeat from * across, ending with k 1. Hereafter work in ribbing of k 1, p 1, for 3 inches. Bind off.
