KNITTING NEEDLES: 1 pair "Boye" Non-Inflammable Needles, Size 10 ½ -OR SIZE YOU REQUIRE TO KNIT TO GAUGE GIVEN BELOW.
"Boye" Non-Inflammable Hook, Size G.
GAUGE: Knitted Gauge - 4 sts = 1 inch; Blocked Gauge - 7 sts = 2 inches

NOTE: Length of all parts will be knitted length.

BACK - With A, cast on 64 (69) sts. K 1 row and mark this row for wrong side.

Work even in garter st - k every row - until 16 ins. from beg. Mark for underarm.

Armholes - Bind off 2 sts at beg. of each of next 2 rows. Dec. 1 st each side every 2nd row 6 (7) times; 48 (51) sts. Work even until 7½ (8) ins. above marker.

Shoulder Shaping - Bind off 4 (5) sts at beg. of each of next 2 rows; 4 sts at beg. of each of next 6 rows. Bind off 16 (17) sts.

LEFT FRONT - Cast on 33 (37) sts. K 1 row and mark for wrong side.

Inc. row - right side - K to within 1 st of end, inc. 1 st in last st - mark end of row for front edge. Continue garter st repeating inc. row every 2nd row 5 times; 39 (43) sts. Work even until 16 ins. from beg., measured at center of work, end at underarm edge. Mark for underarm.

Armhole - Bind off 6 sts at beg. of next row. Dec. 1 st at armhole edge every 2nd row 6 (7) times; 27 (30) sts. Work even until about 6½ (7) ins. above marker, end at front edge. Bind off 6 (7) sts at beg. of next row. Dec. 1 st at neck edge every row 5 (6) times, shaping shoulder same as right shoulder on back when armhole is same length.

RIGHT FRONT - Cast on 33 (37) sts, K 2 rows.

Inc. row - wrong side - K to within 1 st of end, inc. 1 st in last st-mark end of row for front edge. Continue garter st repeating inc. row every 2nd row 5 times; 39 (43) sts. Work even until 37 (39) rows from beg. measured at center of work, end at front edge.

Buttonhole rows - K 2 sts, bind off 2 sts, k to end. On next row, cast on 2 sts over buttonhole. Finish to correspond to left front, shaping at opposite sides, repeating buttonhole on 21st and 22nd rows until there are 4 buttonholes in all.

SLEEVES - Cast on 37 (39) sts. Work even in garter st until 4 ins. from beg. Inc. 1 st each side of next row; repeat incs. every 3 ½ ins. 3 times; 45 (47) sts. Work even until 17 ins. from beg. Bind off 2 sts at beg. of each of next 2 rows. Dec. 1 st each side every 2nd row 6 times; every 4th row 4 (5) times; every row 6 times. Bind off 9 sts.

COLLAR - Cast on 10 sts. Work even in garter st until 15 (15½) ins. from beg., end on wrong side. Bind off.

Block each piece separately to given measurements, see patternbook page. Block collar at outer edge to 16 (16½) ins. leaving inner edge the knitted length.

EMBROIDERY – BACK - Skip 4 sts from right underarm edge, mark next st at lower edge for center st of first stripe, * skip 10 (11) sts, mark next st at lower edge for center st of next stripe; repeat from * 4 times leaving 4 sts from left underarm edge.

Cut 2 strands of B about 18 ins. long and 4 strands of B about 28 ins. long. Thread tapestry needle with 18-in. strand of B. Fasten strand on wrong side at first marker. Draw yarn through to right side at this st, above cast-on row. Working from right side, pass over first ridge, * insert needle under upper loop of same st on following ridge, pass over next loop of same st on next ridge; repeat from * to underarm edge and fasten on wrong side. With 28-in. strand of B, beg. at 2nd marker, work 2nd stripe in same way as first stripe to shoulder. Work a stripe at 3rd and 4th markers extending stripe to neck. Work 5th stripe same as 2nd stripe and 6th stripe same as first stripe. Cut 4 strands of C about 38 ins. long and 8 strands of C about 60 ins. long. Draw 38-in. strand of C through to right side 1 st to right of first B stripe above cast-on row, drawing up yarn to half its length leaving other end free. Weave a stripe same as for first stripe. With free end weave a stripe 1 st to left of B stripe in same way. Using yarn necessary length, work C stripes to correspond on each of next 5 stripes. Beg. at first group of stripes, draw 19 ins. of 38-in. strand of C through to right side to right between Band C stripes in row above cast-on row, leaving 19 ins. free and weave between sts, going under the loops on ridges skipped when weaving first and 2nd stripes. With free end, weave another stripe between 2nd and 3rd stripes in same way as illustrated, see below. Using yarn necessary length work 2 more C stripes in same way on each of next 5 groups of stripes.

LEFT FRONT - Skip 8 sts from underarm edge, mark next st at lower edge for center st of first stripe, * skip 10 (11) sts, mark next st at lower edge for center st of next stripe; repeat from * once. Embroider first 2 stripes same as for back.

Cutting yarn the required length, work 3rd stripe to neck edge; drawing yarn to wrong side, continue stripe on wrong side working downward for 8 ins.

RIGHT FRONT - Mark and embroider to correspond to left front.

SLEEVE - Beg. at lower edge of sleeve, skip 7 sts from right edge, mark next st at lower edge for center of first stripe, * skip 10 (11) sts, mark next st at lower edge for center st of next stripe; repeat from * once, leaving 7 sts from left edge. Embroider stripes same as for back.

COLLAR - With cast-on row at lower edge, skip 3 sts from right edge, mark next st for center st of stripe. Embroider same as first stripe on back, extending stripe for length of collar.

FINISHING - Sew seams. Sew in sleeves with seam at center underarm. Sew on collar with ends of collar at end of stripes at front edge. With A, from right side, beg. in st next to em-broidered stripe on right front edge, work 1 row sc on shaped edge and front edge until opposite top buttonhole. Fasten off. Work 1 row sc on left front to correspond. Beg. 1 st above first sc on left front, from wrong side, work 1 row sc to neck edge, working 2 sc in corners, continue sc across bound-off sts, around collar and down right front edge to st above sc rowan right front edge, join and fasten off. Steam lightly, see patternbook page. Sew seam binding across shoulder seams and neck edge.
