Sizes:

Slip-over instructions are for sizes 8 and 12. Sock instructions are for size 9.

Materials:

Columbia Scotch, 4 ounce skeins. 3 skeins Maroon, 8850 for slip-over, size 8. 4 skeins size 12. Columbia Spanish Knitting Worsted, 4 ounce skeins. 1 skein Maroon 8975 for socks.

Needles:

Columbia or Boye Steel Circular Needle, size 4. Columbia or Boye Steel Circular Sleeve Needle, size 4. Boye Steel Sock Needles, size 10.

Gauge:

Slip-over — 6 ½ sts = 1 inch. 8 rows = 1 inch.
Socks — 8 sts = 1 inch.

For size 8 follow instructions as written. For size 12 follow instructions as written substituting numbers in italics.

Back and Front:

Using size 4 circular needle, cast on 168 (192) sts. Join and work around needle in k 2, p 2 ribbing for 2 inches. Change to plain knitting and work even for 10 (11) inches. Next row place 12 sts (underarm) on a st pin, work across 72 (84) sts (back), and place on st pin, place next 12 sts (underarm) on a st pin, and on remaining sts work front as follows: Work even in stockinette st for 3½ (4 ½ ) inches, then bind off center 14 (20) sts. At neck edge, dec 1 st every other row 6 times. On remaining sts work even in garter st (plain knitting) for 1 inch. Bind off. Work other shoulder to correspond. Pick up 72 (84) sts and work even in stockinette st every inch 6 (10) times, then dec 1 st each side at the beginning of each of the next 2 rows. Place remaining sts on a st pin. Sew shoulder seams.

Sleeve:

Using sleeve needle, pick up 12 sts from st pin and 54 (62) sts around armhole. Join and work even for 2 inches. Mark 1 st at underarm and dec 1 st each side of this st (seam st). Dec 1 st each side of seam st every inch 6 (10) times, then dec 1 st each side every ½ inch 8 (6) times more. Change to k 2, p 2 ribbing and work even for 3 inches, bind off.

With sleeve needle pick up 26 (28) sts at back of neck and 56 (60) sts around front of neck and work even in k 2, p 2 ribbing for 1 inch. Bind off.
