MATERIALS— Bear Brand Standard Knitting Worsted, Main Color A, 5 skeins.
Bucilla Wonderized Handi-Wool, Art. 026, 1 card each of Contrasting Colors B, C and D.
Bucilla Plastic Knitting Needles, 1 pair Size 5.
Bucilla Plastic Crochet Hook, Size 4.

MEASUREMENTS OF GARMENT—At bustline buttoned 36 (38-40) ins.
Width of back at underarm 17 (18-19) ins.
Sleeves—width at underarm 12½ (13-13½) ins.

GAUGE: 11 sts = 2 inches; 31 rows = 4 inches

BACK—With A, cast on 93 (97-103) sts.

PatternRow 1—right side—K 1 (3-6), * p 1, k 8; repeat from * across row, end p 1, k 1 (3-6).
Row 2—P 2 (4-7), * k 1, p 8; repeat from * across row, end k 1 (p 2-p 5).
Row 3—K 8 (1-4), * p 1, k 8; repeat from * across row, end p 1, k 3 (5-8).
Row 4—P 4 (6-0), * k 1, p 8; repeat from * across row, end k 1, p 7 (0-3).
Row 5—K 6 (8-2), * p 1, k 8; repeat from * across row, end p 1, k 5 (7-1).
Row 6—P 6 (8-2), * k 1, p 8; repeat from * across row, end k 1, p 5 (7-1).

Continue pat. in this way shifting diagonal stripes 1 st toward right underarm edge every row until 12 rows from beg. Dec. 1 st each side of next row; repeat decs, every 6th row 5 times, with care to keep pat.; 81 (85-91) sts. Work even until 54 rows from beg.—about 7 ins. Inc. 1 st each side of next row; repeat incs. every 6th row 6 times; 95 (99-105) sts. Work even until 109 rows from beg.—about 14 ins.

Armholes—Bind off 5 (5-6) sts at beg. of next 2 rows for underarm. Dec. 1 st each side every 2nd row 6 (7-8) times; 73 (75-77) sts.
Work even until armholes measure 7 (7¼-7½) ins., straight up from underarm.

Shoulders—Bind off 4 (5-6) sts at beg. of next 2 rows; 5 sts at beg. of next 8 rows. Bind off remaining 25 sts.

RIGHT FRONT—With A, cast on 50 (52-55) sts.
Row 1—right side—K 3, * p 1, k 8; repeat from *, end p 1, k 1 (3-6).
Row 2—P 2 (4-7), * k 1, p 8; repeat from *, end k 1, p 2.
Continue to follow chart, shaping underarm edge as for back until 14 rows from beg.
Begin motifs as follows: Divide color B into 3 equal lengths.
Row 15—With A, k 7, p 1, k 8, p 1, k 1, drop A; * with 3 strands of B, k 6, drop B; with A, k 1, p 1, k 1, drop A; carry color not being used loosely on wrong side of work; repeat from * twice, finish row following chart.
Continue to follow chart,—using 3 strands of contrasting color for motifs—shaping underarm edge as on back until 109 rows from beg., end at underarm edge; 51 (53-56) sts.

Armhole—Bind off 7 (7-8) sts at beg. of next row for under­arm, finish row. Dec. 1 st at armhole edge every 2nd row 6 (7-8) times; 38 (39-40) sts. Work even until same number of rows above underarm to neck as on chart, end at front edge.

Neck and Shoulder Shaping—Bind off 7 sts for neck, finish row. Dec. 1 st at neck edge every row 3 times; every 2nd row 4 times, shaping shoulder as on chart.

LEFT FRONT—With A, cast on 50 (52-55) sts.
Row 1—right side—K 1 (3-6), * p 1, k 8; repeat from *, end p 1, k 3.
Row 2—P 4, * k 1, p 8; repeat from *, end last repeat k 1 (p 2-p 5).
Complete to correspond to right front, following chart.

SLEEVES—With A, cast on 43 sts.
Row 1—right side—K 3, * p 1, k 8; repeat from *, end p 1, k 3.
Row 2—P 4, * k 1, p 8; repeat from *, end k 1, p 2.
Continue pat. shifting diagonal stripes 1 st every row—always in same direction as on back. Work until 10 rows from beg. Inc. 1 st each side of next row. Repeat incs. every 6th row 5 (7-11) times; every 12th row 7 (6-4) times, working in­creased sts in pat.; 69 (71-75) sts. Work even until 134 rows from beg., about 17¼ ins. Bind off 6 (6-7) sts at beg. of next 2 rows. Dec. 1 st each side every 2nd row 6 (7-8) times; every 4th row 3 times; every 2nd row 4 times. Bind off 2 sts at beg. of next 6 rows. Bind off remaining 19 sts.

FINISHING—Steam each piece separately. Sew seams. Sew in sleeves with sleeve seam at center underarm. With A, from right side, work sc on lower edge of sleeves, keeping work flat, join. Ch 1, turn, work 2nd row sc, working in front loop of each st, join. Fasten off. Join A on lower edge at left underarm seam, from right side, keeping work flat and increasing in corners, work sc across lower edge, up right front edge, around neck, holding in to desired size—, down left front edge and across lower edge to left underarm seam, join. Fasten off.

Mark position of 7 buttonholes evenly spaced on right front edge, having top buttonhole 1 st from neck edge and lower buttonhole about 3 ins. from lower edge. Join A on right front edge at lower corner, working in back loop of sts, work 1 sc in each st to first marker, * ch 2, skip 2 sts, 1 sc in each st to next marker; repeat from * until 7 buttonholes, end 1 sc in last st at neck edge. Fasten off. Beg. at neck, work 1 row sc on left front edge,  working in back loop of each st. Fasten off.

Join A on lower edge at right underarm seam, working from wrong side, work 1 row sc around entire lower, front and neck edges, working in front loop of each st and keeping work flat, join. Fasten off. Steam seams and edges.
