10-1 oz. Balls, White or Colors.
7 Buttons and Ribbon for front of Sweater.
1 Pr. Steel Knitting Needles No. 1.
1 Pr. Bone Knitting Needles No. 3.
Measurements: Bust 34 inches.
Across Back 14 inches.
Underarm 15 inches.
Length of Sleeve 17½ inches.
Gauge: 13 sts = 2 inches, 22 rows = 2 inches.
Pattern. P 2, * K 4, P 2, repeat from *.
2nd Row. K 2, * P 4, K 2, repeat from *.
Back. On No. 1 needles cast on 116 sts and work in ribbing of K 2, P 2 for 3½ inches. Change to No. 3 needles and continue in pattern until back measures 14 inches.
Next 2 Rows. Decrease 4 sts at the beginning of each row.
Next 14 Rows. Decrease 1 st at the beginning of each row.
Work even until armhole measures 7 inches from the 1st decreasing point.
Next 2 Rows. Bind off 15 sts at the beginning of each row.
Next 2 Rows. Bind off 14 sts at the beginning of each row and bind off remaining sts for back of neck.
Neck Band. Using No. 1 needles with the right side of work toward you, pick up 52 sts and work in ribbing of K 2, P 2, for 1 inch, bind off loosely.
Left Front. With No. 1 needles cast on 60 sts and work in ribbing for 3½ inches. Change to No. 3 needles and work in pattern until front measures 14 inches.
Next Row. Decrease 2 sts at armhole edge then decrease 2 sts at armhole edge every 4th row until 50 sts remain.
When work measures 19½ inches bind off 21 sts at neck edge and work even for 1½ inches. Bind off shoulder same as back.
Neck Band. Pick up 52 sts and work same as back neck band.
Right Front. Work same as left front reversing the shaping and working buttonholes 3 sts in from the front edge after 1¾ inches has been worked.
To make buttonhole in ribbing bind off 5 sts and the next row cast on 5 sts over the bound off sts. When working in stockinette st, bind off 3 sts instead of 5. Space the buttonholes 3 inches apart, the last buttonhole is worked in the neck band.
Sleeves. With No. 1 needles cast on 60 sts and work in ribbing for 3 inches. Change to No. 3 needles, work in pattern increasing 1 st each side every inch until there are 86 sts on needle. Work even until sleeve measures 18 inches.
Next 2 Rows. Bind off 3 sts at the beginning of each row then decrease 1 st each side every other row until 60 sts remain, work even for ½ inch and bind off.
Press each piece lightly. Sew seams and sew sleeves in position. Face front edges with ribbon on the wrong side. Cut buttonholes in ribbon to correspond with buttonholes in sweater and with a matching color work buttonholes together with a buttonhole st. Sew on buttons.
