Knitting Chart

GAUGE:

6 stitches = 1 inch
9 rows = 1 inch

FRONT:

With No. 3 needles and white yarn, cast on 56 stitches and work in ribbing of knit 2, purl 2, for 15 rows. On next row, change to No. 4 needles and as you knit across increase 3 stitches evenly spaced across row (to 59 stitches). Purl back. Attach blue yarn and follow chart for pattern.

When work measures 5 1/2 inches above ribbing, bind off 5 stitches at beginning of next 2 rows. Work even (being sure to watch position of polka dots) for 16 rows.

On next knit row, start neck shaping as follows: Knit 18, put these on a stitch holder and leave. Knit 13, and put these on a stitch holder and leave. Knit remaining 18 stitches. Purl back over these 18 stitches. At beginning of next 3 knit rows decrease 1 stitch at neck edge. Work even until work measures 3 1/2 inches from armhole. Leave stitches on a stitch holder. Make left shoulder to correspond. Note: The decreases at neck edge will, come at beginning of purl rows on the left side.

Make the BACK to correspond, omitting neck shaping. Weave the front to the back, leaving center 19 stitches of the back for the neck.

NECK:

With right side of work toward you, using No. 3 sock needles and white yarn, pick up and knit the 13 stitches left on holder from the front, the 19 from the back and 12 stitches over each shoulder. Distribute these 56 stitches on 3 needles and work round and round in ribbing of knit 2, purl 2, for 6 rows. Bind off very loosely.

SLEEVES:

Holding right side of work toward you and with No. 4 needles, pick up and knit 56 stitches around the armhole. Purl back. Continue in stockinette stitch and polka dot pattern, working even for 15 rows. Then decrease 1 stitch each end of needle every 4th row until 34 stitches remain, ending with 2 rows in white. Work first 3 rows of pattern. In next row decrease 1 stitch each end of needle. Then, changing to No. 3 needles, work in ribbing of knit 2, purl 2, for 15 rows. Bind off.
