Wood Brown No. 569, 9 Balls
Fawn No. 595, 3 Balls

BACK—With Wood Brown and No. 2½ needles cast on 104 sts., K. 2 sts., P. 2 sts., (ribbing) for 1 inch, change to No. 3½ needles, K. 1 row, P. 1 row, (Stockinette st.) for 16 inches or desired length to underarm.

Bind off 3 sts. at beginning of the next 2 rows, then decrease 1 st. each side every other row 4 times (90 sts. remaining).

Work even until armholes measure 9 inches, then bind off 6 sts. at beginning of the next 10 rows (30 sts. for each slanting shoulder), bind off remaining sts. for back of neck.

Now with Wood Brown and No. 3½ needles make two backs for the pockets as follows: Cast on 27 sts., work in Stockinette st. for 4 inches, ending with a K. row, slip sts. on stitch holder.

RIGHT FRONT—With Wood Brown and No. 2½ needles, cast on 64 sts., K. 2 sts., P. 2 sts., (ribbing) for 1 inch, change to No. 3½ needles then using 1 ball of each color work in pattern as follows:

Row 1—* Fawn K. 1, Wood Brown K. 1, repeat from * across row.

Row 2—* Fawn P. 3, Wood Brown P. 1, repeat from * across row.

Row 3—Wood Brown K. 2, Fawn K. 1, * Wood Brown K. 3, Fawn K. 1, repeat from * across row, ending Wood Brown K. 1.

Row 4—Wood Brown P. 1, Fawn P. 1, * Wood Brown P. 3, Fawn P. 1, repeat from * across row, ending Wood Brown P. 2.

Row 5—Same as Row 3.

Row 6—Same as Row 2.

Repeat these 6 rows for entire front.

Work even for 4 inches. On next row work pocket opening, starting at front edge as follows: Work 24 sts., bind off 27 sts. Work last 13 sts. Next row work 13 sts., P. the 27 sts. of one pocket from stitch holder, work last 24 sts.

Continue to work even in pattern until front measures 16 inches from start, then bind off 6 sts. for underarm, decrease 1 st. every other row at armhole 8 times, at the same time, decrease 1 st. every 3rd row at neck end 20 times.

When armhole measures 10 inches, bind off 6 sts. at beginning of every P. row for slanting shoulder. Work left front to correspond.

SLEEVES—With Wood Brown and No. 2½ needles cast on 64 sts., K. 2 sts., P. 2 sts., (ribbing) for 4 inches, change to No. 3½ needles, work in Stockinette st. for 2 inches even, then increase 1 st. each side every inch 17 times.

Now bind off 6 sts. at beginning of the next 2 rows, then 2 sts. at the beginning of every row until 26 sts. remain, bind off.

POCKET BANDS—With Wood Brown and No. 2½ needles pick up the 27 bound off sts., K. 1 row, P. 1 row, for 11 rows, K. 1 row on P. side for turn of hem, then K. 1. row, P. 1 row, for 10 rows, bind off. Turn under and sew hem, sew sides to sweater. Sew back of pockets to inside of sweater.

BAND—With Wood Brown and No. 2½ needles cast on 17 sts., work in Stockinette st. for 1 inch, then work first double buttonhole as follows: K. 2, bind off 4, K. 5, bind off 4, K. 2.

On next row cast on 4 sts. over those bound off. Work another double buttonhole in same manner every 2½ inches, 6 times more, then work even until band measures 56 inches, or enough to fit around neck and right front. Fold neck band lengthwise, sew to sweater (with buttonholes at left front) around neck and right front. Sew shoulder seams, sew sleeves in place, sew underarm seams. Over-cast double buttonholes together.
