SACQUE
Measurements—Chest 23 ins. Length from lower edge to back of neck 10 ins. Sleeves—Width 6 ¾ ins.
Body—With size 2 needles, cast on 183 sts. Work diamond pattern st until 6 ½ ins. from beginning, end with 8th pattern row.
Next row (right side)—Continuing pattern, work 46 sts, slip on a strand of yarn (right front), bind off 3 sts for underarm, work until 85 sts from bind off, slip these on a strand of yarn (back), bind off 3 sts, work to end (46 sts—left front).. Work pattern on last 46 sts for 7 rows, end with 16th pattern row.
Yoke—Change to size 1 needles.
Dec. row—* K 2, k 2 tog; repeat from * across row, end k 2 (35 sts.).
First row of seed st pattern—K 1, * p 1, k 1; repeat from * to end. Repeat this row for pattern. Work until there are 20 rows in seed st, end at front edge. Continuing seed st, bind off 2 sts at beginning of next 7 rows worked from front edge (21 sts). Work 2 rows even. Bind off in seed st. Slip 46 sts of right front to size 2 needles. Beginning at underarm, work to correspond to left front.
Slip 85 sts of back t size 2 needles. Beginning on wrong side work pattern for 7 rows, end with 16th pattern row. Change to size 1 needles.
Dec. row—K 4, k 2 tog, * k 2, k 2 tog; repeat from *, end k 3 (65 sts). Work 35 rows in seed st. Bind off.
Sew 21 sts at each side to front shoulders.
Sleeves—With size 1 needles, cast on 39 sts. Work seed st for 16 rows. Next row, k 4, * inc., 1 st in next st, k 1; repeat from * 15 times, k to end (55 sts). P 1 row. Change to size 2 needles, work diamond pattern until 7 ins., including cuff. Bind off 4 sts at beginning of next 10 rows; bind off 15 sts.
Finishing—Sew seams. Sew in sleeves with seam at center underarm.
Edging—Working from right side, beginning at lower edge of right front, 1 sc every 2nd row to first row of yoke, * ch 2, skip 3 rows for buttonhole, 3 sc on the next 5 rows; repeat from * once, ch 2, skip 3 rows, 3 sc in corner st of yoke, continue sc around entire sacque working 3 sc in each corner and keeping work flat, join.
2nd row—Do not turn; 1 sc in next st, * ch 3, draw up a loop in same st as last st, skip next st, draw up a loop in next st, yo and through 3 loops on hook; repeat from * around, join. Fasten off. Steam.
Embroider 3 flowers with leaves in “Lazy Daisy St” around corner of each front, see illustration.
CAP
With size 1 needles, cast on 189 sts for frill around face of cap. Work 6 rows in seed st.
Dec. row (right side)—K 1, k 2 tog 94 times (95 sts). Work 11 rows seed st, end on wrong side. Change to size 2 needles, work diamond pattern for 34 rows, end with 2nd row of pattern. Change to size 1 needles, work 12 rows in seed st.
1st dec. row (right side)—K 2 tog, * k 7, k 2 tog; repeat from * 9 times, k 3 (84 sts). P 1 row.
2nd dec. row—* K 10, k 2 tog; repeat from * to end (77 sts). P 1 row.
3rd dec. row—* K 9, k 2 tog; repeat from * to end (70 sts). P 1 row.
4th dec. row—* K 8, k 2 tog; repeat from * to end. Continue stockinette st decreasing 7 sts every k row having 1 st less between decreases after each dec. row until 28 sts remain.
Next row (wrong side)—P 2 tog 14 times.
Final row—K 2 tog 7 times. Break yarn, draw end through 7 sts twice, tighten, darn in end. Sew edges on back of cap together from the 7 sts drawn together to last row of diamond pattern.
Neck Band—Working from right side, with size 1 needles and beginning at dec. row of frill, pick up and k 30 sts on neck edge to seam, 1 st at seam. 30 sts on other side to dec. row (61 sts). Work 5 rows seed st. Bind off in seed st.
Edging—Working from wrong side, join yarn at dec. row of frill; working around frill, * ch 3, skip 1 row, slip st in next row *; repeat between *’s to corner, ** ch 3, skip 1 st, slip st in next st **; repeat between **’s to next corner; repeat between *’s to dec. row.
Turn corners of frill back on right side, tack and trim with ribbon as illustrated. Sew ribbon on wrong side of seed st stripe at face holding in to desired size. Embroider flowers in every other diamond of first pattern.
BOOTEES
Leg—With size 2 needles, cast on 39 sts. Work diamond pattern for 15 rows.
Beading row (wrong side)—* K 2 tog, yo; repeat from *, end k 1. Change to size 1 needles. K 1 row, p 1 row. Drop yarn.
Instep—Slip first 15 sts to holder; with another strand of yarn work next 9 sts in seed st, slip last 15 sts to holder. Continue seed st on 9 sts for 19 rows, then dec. 1 st each side every row twice (5 sts). Break off.
Working from right side, take up and k the first 15 sts; with same needle pick up and k 17 sts on side edge of instep; inc. 1 st in each of the next 2 instep sts, k 1, inc. 1 st in each of the next 2 sts; pick up and k 17 sts on other side of instep; take up and k last 15 sts (73 sts). Work seed st for 19 rows.
Dec. row—Continue seed st, k 3 tog, work 26 sts, p 3 tog, k 3 tog, p 3 tog, k 3 tog, p 3 tog, work 26 sts, k 3 tog (59 sts). Work 1 row even. Bind off in seed st. Sew sole and back seam.
Edging—Working from right side, work 1 row sc around cast-on edge, join.
2nd row—Work same as 2nd row on sacque.
Steam lightly. Embroider in every pattern around leg and on instep, see illustration. Run ribbon through beading.
COVER
Approximate Size 25 by 29 inches
Gauge: 6 sts = 1 inch; 9 rows = 1 inch
With size 4 needles and Baby Zephyr 4-fold, cast on 149 sts.
Seed st border—K 1, * p 1, k 1; repeat from * to end. Repeat this row until 20 rows.
Next row—Work seed st on 11 sts for side border, place marker on needle, p 127 sts, place marker on needle, work last 11 sts seed st for side border.
Begin diamond pattern—First row (right side)—Work 11 sts seed st, k 7, * p 1, k 7; repeat from * to marker, work last 11 sts seed st. Continue working 11 sts each side in seed st and the sts between markers in diamond pattern until there are 30 pattern rows.
31st row—Work 11 sts seed st; turn, work 11 sts seed st again (2 short rows); turn, work 11 sts seed st, work 15th pattern row to within 11 sts of end, work 11 sts seed st.
Work 2 short rows on 11 border sts as for other side, then work next pattern row working 11 sts seed st each side as usual.
Continue pattern with seed st border at each side, repeating short rows on border every 31st and 32nd row. Work until 14 patterns from beginning, end with 16th pattern row. Work first 2 rows of next pattern.
Next row—Work border, k 127 sts, work border. Work all sts in seed st for 19 rows. Bind off in seed st. Steam. Embroider as illustrated.
