MATERIAL:
2 balls Sockyarn 3 ply, (1 oz. ball) for short socks
3 balls Sockyarn 3 ply, (1 oz. ball) for long socks
1 set bone sock needles No. 1 and No. 2

GAUGE: 7 sets = 1 inch

   Cast on 64 (68) sts. with No. 1 needles, join and work in ribbing K2, P2 for 3½ inches (2 inches for short socks). Change to No. 2 needles and decrease at even intervals to 60 (64) sts. in next round. 1st, 2nd and 3rd round: P2, K8, P2, K18, (20), P2, K8, P2, K18 (20). 4th round: P2, slip next 4 sts. to an extra needle and hold in front of work, K next 4 sts., K the 4 sts. from extra needle (a cable made), P2, K18 (20) P2, cable the next 8 sts., P2, K18 (20). 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th round incl.: Like 1st round. 12th round: like 4th round. Continue to work this way (cable the K8 sts. every 8th round) until sock measures 6 inch for short socks and 11 inches for long socks. Slip the 30 (32) sts. from center of 1 cable to center of other cable on to one needle for heel and divide the remaining 30 (32) sts. on 2 needles for instep. Work over heel needle only. 1st row: (wrong side) P across row. 2nd row: * slip 1, K1, repeat from * across row. Repeat these 2 rows for 29 rows. Now start to shape heel with right side facing you. Slip 1, K16, (17) K2 tog. K1, turn. Slip 1, P5, P2 tog. P1, turn. Slip 1, K6, K2 tog. K1, turn. Slip 1, P7, P2 tog. P1, turn. Slip 1, K8, K2 tog. K1, turn. Slip 1, P9, P2 tog. P1, turn. Continue this way, always working 1 st. more on each row until 18 sts. are left on heel needle. With another needle (first needle) pick up and K16 sts. along one side of heel. K across all instep sts. (2nd needle) With another needle (3rd needle) pick up and K16 sts. along other side of heel and K half of heel sts. to same needle. Slip the remaining heel sts. to first needle, end at center of sole. Decrease for instep as follows:
   1st round: On first needle K to within 3 sts., K2 tog. K1. K across instep sts. On 3rd needle: K1, slip 1, K1, and pull the slipped st. over the K st. K to end.
   2nd round: K around.
   Repeat these 2 rounds until there are 60 (64) sts. left in round. Work even until foot measures from tip of heel 8½ (9½) inch, or 2 inch less than desired length when finished. Now start toe decrease: 1st round: K around. 2nd round: On first needle K to within 2 sts., K2 tog. On 2nd needle: K2 tog. K to within 2 sts., K2 tog. On 3rd needle: K2 tog. K to end. Repeat these 2 rounds until 20 sts. are left in round. Weave sts. tog.
