Elegante Afghan Pattern

49 inches x 63 inches without fringe

Materials Required:
AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY
"DAWN" KNITTING WORSTED
12 ounces each Steel Gray and Cocoa
11 ounces Lt. Gray
10 ounces White or colors of your choice
1 pr. Knitting Needles No. 8 or any size needle which will result in stitch gauge below.
Steel crochet hook No. 00.

Gauge: 4 sts = 1 inch.

First Strip. With Cocoa cast on 20 stitches (sts).
1st Row. Knit (K) 16, K 2 together (tog), K2.
2nd Row. Purl (P) across row.
3rd Row. K across row to within last 4 sts, K 2 tog, K 2.
4th Row. P across row. Repeat the 3rd and 4th rows until there are 5 sts left on P row.
Next Row. K 2, K 1 st on yarn between last st worked and next st (an increase), K 3.
Next Row. P across row.
Next Row. K across row to within last 3 sts, K 1 st on yarn between last st worked and next st (an increase), K 3.
Next Row. P across row. Repeat the last 2 rows until there are 20 sts on purl row.
Repeat from 1st row 5 more times, then repeat from 1st row until there are 5 sts left on needle, bind off.
All strips are worked in same manner. Work 4 more Cocoa strips, 5 Steel Gray strips, 4 Lt. Gray strips and 4 White strips.

Joining: Sew a Cocoa strip and a Steel Gray strip to­gether having the cast on edge of Steel Gray next to the bound off edge of Cocoa sewing shaped edges to­gether. Sew a White and a Lt. Gray strip together in same manner. Sew the White strip to the Steel Gray strip (4 strips sewed together). Continue sewing strips in same manner following color scheme of Cocoa, Steel Gray, White, Lt. Gray until all strips are sewed having Steel Gray on outside edge. Block to measure­ments. With Lt. Gray crochet a row of single crochet (sc) all around working 3 sc in each corner.

Fringe. Wind Cocoa, Steel Gray and White around a 4 inch cardboard. Cut one end. Using 5 strands of one color for each fringe double in half and loop through the sc's as illustrated placing colors to match strips. Place 2 groups of fringe on each wide strip and 1 fringe on each narrow strip as illustrated.
