Materials Required:

"DAWN" KNITTING WORSTED
28 (32, 36, 40) ounces White or color of your choice
Knitting Needles: 1 pair No. 8 or any size needles which will result in stitch gauge below.
Buttons as required.
2 yds. grosgrain ribbon.
Gauge: 5 sts = 1 inch
Directions are given for size 38. Sizes 40, 42 and 44 are given in parentheses.
Back: Cast on 103 (107, 110, 114) stitches (sts).
Work in stockinette st, Knit (K) 1 row, Purl (P) 1 row for ¾ (¾, 1,1) inch ending with a P row.
P next 2 rows to form hemline. Work even in stockinette st for 17½ (17½, 18, 18) inches from hemline or desired length to underarm ending with a P row.
Shape Armholes: Bind off 6 sts at beginning of next 2 rows. Decrease 1 st on each side every other row 5 (6, 6, 6) times.
Work even until Armholes measure 9 (9, 9½, 9½) inches from 1st decreasing point.
Shoulders: Bind off 8 (9, 9, 9) sts at beginning of next 2 rows.
Next 4 Rows. Bind off 9 (9, 9, 10) sts at beginning of each row. Bind off remaining 29 (29, 32, 32) sts for Back of Neck.
Right Front: Cast on 66 (68, 70, 72) sts.
Work in stockinette st for ¾ (¾, 1, 1) inch ending with a P row.
P the next 2 rows to form hemline.
1st Row. P to within last 16 sts, K 1, P 15 (border).
2nd Row. K 7, slip (sl) 1 as if to P, K 7, P 1 (border), K across remaining sts.
Repeat these 2 rows (keeping 16 sts at Front edge in pattern all the way up entire Front edge for border) until Front measures same as Back to underarm, ending at side edge.
Armholes and Collar Facing: Bind off 6 sts at underarm, discontinue border sts and working in stockinette st throughout, decrease 1 st at Armhole edge every other row 5 (6, 6, 6) times at the same time increase 1 st at Front edge every 3rd row until there are 69 (70, 74, 76) sts on needle.
Work even until Armhole measures same as Back Armhole, ending at Armhole edge.
Shoulder: Bind off 8 (9, 9, 9) sts at beginning of next row.
Work 1 row even.
Bind off 9 (9, 9, 10) sts at Armhole edge every other row twice, there are 43 (43, 47, 47) sts on needle. Increase 1 st each side every other row until there are 51 (51, 55, 55) sts on needle. Work even slipping first st of each row until Collar measures 2½ (2½, 2¾, 2¾) inches from last increase at outer edge ending with a P row. Place these sts on a stitch holder to be weaved together at back of Collar, cut yarn leaving a length of about 1½ yds.
Place markers for 6 (6, 7, 7) buttons evenly spaced, placing 1st marker 1 inch from hemline and last about 2½ inches from Collar facing.
Left Front: Work same as Right Front, reversing the shaping and working double buttonholes on border sts to correspond to markers.
Buttonholes: Work across 2 sts, bind off next 3 sts, work next 4 sts, bind off next 3 sts, work across remaining sts. On next row cast on 3 sts over the bound off sts.
Sleeves: Cast on 48 (48, 50, 50) sts.
Work in stockinette st for ¾ inch ending with a P row. P next 2 rows to form hemline. Work even in stockinette st increasing 1 st each end every inch until there are 82 (84, 88, 90) sts on needle.
Work even until Sleeve measures 19 (20, 21, 21) inches from hemline, or length desired.
Bind off 6 sts at beginning of next 2 rows.
Decrease 1 st each side every other row 10 (10, 11, 11) times.
Bind off 2 sts at beginning of next 10 (10, 11, 11) rows. Bind off 4 sts at beginning of next 4 rows. Bind off remaining sts.
Pockets: Make 2. Cast on 34 (34, 36, 36) sts.
Work in stockinette st for ¾ inch, ending with a P row. P next 2 rows to form hemline. Work even in stockinette st for 6 inches from hemline, bind off.
Finishing: Block each section.
Sew Seams and sew Sleeves in position. Weave back of Collar together as follows:
Sl sts of each Collar section from stitch holders on separate needles, thread yarn in blunt needle, holding the 2 needles together wrong sides of work touching, * pass needle through first st of front needle as if knitting and slip st off needle, pass into 2nd st of same needle as if purling and leave st on needle, pass through first st of back needle as if purling and slip st off needle, pass through 2nd st of back needle as if knitting and leave st on needle, repeat from * until all sts are worked off.
Turn hem at lower edge and cuffs on P row and sew in position. Fold back both Fronts along sl sts and sew to wrong side. Sew Collar in position to back neck edge. Buttonhole st around double buttonholes. Sew Pockets and Buttons in position. Sew ribbon across shoulders and down each side.
