Materials Required: AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY"DAWN" WORSTED FLOSS, Article W 16.

4-1 oz. Balls Pink.
10 yds. Contrasting Color for Smocking.
4 Pearl Buttons.
1 pr. each of No. 1 and No. 3 Bone Knitting Needles.
4 double pointed Knitting Needles No. 3.
Bone Crochet Hook No. 2.

Gauge: 7 sts = 1 inch; 10 rows = 1 inch.

BACK: On No. 1 needles, cast on 76 sts, work in ribbing of K 2, P 2 for 1 inch. Change to No. 3 needles and work in stockinette st (K 1 row, P 1 row) until work measures 7 inches from beginning. Bind off 2 sts at the beginning of the next 2 rows. Decrease 1 st at the beginning of each row until there are 58 sts left on needle ending work with K row. Slip these sts on stitch holder. Work front same as back.

SLEEVES: On No. 1 needles, cast on 60 sts, work same as back until work measures 7 inches from beginning. Bind off 3 sts at the beginning of next 2 rows. Decrease 1 st at the beginning of each row until there are 34 sts left on needle ending work with K row. Slip these sts on a stitch holder.
Slip sts off stitch holders on three needles as follows: On first needle slip last 34 sts of back and 1 sleeve, on second needle slip the front sts, on third needle slip the remaining sleeve and remaining sts of back. Purl across 3 needles, increasing 1 st in row (185 sts), turn.

YOKE: * K 1, P 3, repeat from * across row ending with K 1, turn.
Next Row. * P 1, K 3, repeat from * across row ending with P 1, turn. Repeat the last 2 rows twice.
Next Row, * K 1, P 2 together, P 1, repeat from * across row ending with K 1.
Next Row. * P 1, K 2, repeat from * across row ending with P 1.
Next Row. * K 1, P 2, repeat from * across row ending with K 1. Repeat the last 2 rows twice.
Next Row. * P 1, K 2, repeat from * across row ending with P 1.
Next Row. * K 1, P 2 tog, repeat from * across row ending with K 1.
Next Row. * P 1, K 1, repeat from * across row ending with P 1.
Next Row. * K 1, P 1, repeat from * across row ending with K 1. Repeat last 2 rows twice, bind off.
Press each section. Sew side and sleeve seams and underarm seams. Attach yarn at right top at back of neck opening and work a row of s c around opening, turn.
2nd Row. * Ch 3, skip 2 s c, s c in each of the next 2 s c (buttonhole), repeat from * 3 times, break yarn.

SMOCKING: Use a contrasting Color and start at lower edge of neck opening. Bring needle to left of 1st K rib of 1st row, insert needle to right of 2nd K rib of 1st row (passing needle over P sts) draw these 2 sts to­gether tightly and work over them a second time bringing needle up to left of 2nd K rib of 5th row. Insert needle to right of 3rd K rib of 5th row and draw these 2 sts together in same manner bringing yarn down to left of 3rd K rib of 1st row. Insert needle to right of 4th K rib and draw sts together in same manner bringing yarn up to left of 4th K rib of 5th row. Insert needle to right of 5th K rib of 5th row. Continue in same manner across row.
Work 2 more rows of smocking in same manner about ½ inch apart. Work 1 row of smocking at top edge. Sew buttons in position.
