Knee Socks Pattern

MATERIALS
BERNAT Meadowspun (1 oz. pull skeins) — 3
1 set each d p needles Nos. 1 and 2 OR ANY SIZE NEEDLES WHICH WILL GIVE THE STITCH GAUGE GIVEN BELOW

GAUGE: 8 sts = 1 inch; 12 rounds = 1 inch

DIRECTIONS: Using No. 2 needles, cast on 76 sts. Join, being careful not to twist sts. Change to No. 1 needles and K 1, P 1 in ribbing for 1½ inches. Change to No. 2 needles and work as follows: Rounds 1 and 2: K 20, P 1, K 6, P 1, K 20, P 1, K 6, P 1, K 20. Round 3: K 20, P 1, sl next 3 sts to d p needle and hold in back of work, K next 3 sts, K 3 sts from d p needle (cable twist), P 1, K 20, P 1, work cable twist on next 6 sts, P 1, K 20. Continue in pattern as estab­lished, twisting cables every 8th round until piece measures 2½ inches. DEC ROUND: Starting at the beg of a round, K 1, sl 1, K 1, psso, work in pattern st to last 3 sts of round, K 2 tog, K 1. Continue in pattern st, work a dec round every ¾ inch 9 times more. Work even on 56 sts until piece measures 11½ inches. HEEL AND FOOT: Follow directions for heel and foot of the Ankle Socks Pattern.
