RIGHT BACK ... Starting at lower edge with Grey and No. 5 knitting needles, cast on 99 (103, 107) sts. Work in stockinette st, knit 1 row, purl 1 row, for ¾ inch, ending with a knit row. Next row: Knit across (hemline).
Change to No. 6 knitting needles and work in pattern as follows: 1st row: K 3 Grey, attach a ball of Sunstar. * k 1 Sunstar, k 3 Grey. Repeat from * across. 2nd row: P 2 Sunstar, * p 1 Grey, p 3 Sunstar. Repeat from * across, ending with p 1 Grey. 3rd row: K 1 Sunstar, * k 1 Grey, k 3 Sunstar. Repeat from * across, ending with k 1 Grey, k 1 Sunstar. 4th row: * P 1 Sunstar, p 3 Grey. Repeat from * across, ending with p 1 Sunstar, p 2 Grey. 5th row: K 3 Grey, * k 1 Sunstar, k 3 Grey. Repeat from * across.
The last 4 rows (2nd to 5th rows incl) constitute pattern. Work in pattern for 2 inches. Keeping continuity of pattern decrease 1 st at side edge on next row and on one row every 2 inches until there remain 95 (99, 103) sts.
Work without decreasing until piece measures 13½ (14, 14½) inches from hemline, ending at side edge with 2nd row of pattern. Work is now at underarm. Lay this piece aside.
BACK OF RIGHT SLEEVE ... With Grey and No. 6 knitting needles, cast on 5 sts and purl 1 row. Now work in pattern, following chart for sleeve and increasing according to chart until there are 142 sts on needle, ending with 2nd row of pattern. Next row: With right side facing, work across sleeve, then with same needle work across sts of Right Back in pattern. There are on needle 237 (241. 245) sts. Continue in pattern, increasing 1 st at the beginning of each knit row (sleeve edge) 5 more times. Work without increasing until sleeve edge measures 7 inches, ending at sleeve edge. There are on needle 212 (246, 250) sts.
To Shape Sleeve: Bind off 3 sts at the beginning of each knit row 23 times. Then bind off 5 sts at the beginning of each knit row 8 times. Bind off 10 sts at the beginning of each knit row 8 times. Bind off 24 sts at the beginning of next purl row (neck edge). Bind off 10 sts at the beginning of each knit row twice. Bind off 9(13, 17) sts.
LEFT BACK ... Work as for Right Bark, reversing shapings, to underarm, ending with 3rd row. Lay this piece aside.
LEFT SLEEVE ... according to chart until top of chart is reached, ending with 3rd row. Complete as for Right Back and Right Sleeve reversing shapings.
LEFT FRONT ... Starting at lower edge with Grey and No. 5 knitting needles, cast on 107 (111, 115) sts. Work in stockinette st for ¾ inch, ending with a knit row. Next row: Knit across (hemline).
Change to No. 6 knitting needles and work in pattern, decreasing 1 st at side edge when piece measures 2 inches and every 2 inches thereafter until there remain 103 (107, 111) sts. Work without decreasing until piece measures 13 (14, 14½) inches from hemline, ending at side edge with 2nd row. Lay this piece aside.
LEFT FRONT SLEEVE ... Work exactly as for Back of Right Sleeve. Then join sleeve to Left Front as Back and Sleeve were joined. Continue in pattern, increasing 1 st at sleeve edge every other row 2 more times. There are on needle 247 (251, 255) sts. Work without increasing until sleeve edge measures 6 inches.
To Shape Sleeve: Bind off 3 sts at the beginning of each knit row 23 times. Now bind off 5 sts at the beginning of each knit row 8 times. Bind off 10 sts at the beginning of each knit row 10 times. Bind off 5 (7, 13) sts at the beginning of next knit row (31 sts remain). Work in pattern over the 31 sts for collar for inches, ending with a purl row.
To Shape Collar: Bind off 7 sts at the beginning of each knit row 3 times. Bind off remaining sts.
RIGHT FRONT ... Work as for Left Front, reversing shapings, to underarm, ending with 3rd row. Lay this piece aside.
RIGHT FRONT SLEEVE ... Work exactly as for Left Back Sleeve.
Complete Right Front as for Left Front, reversing shapings.
LEFT FRONT FACING ... With Grey and No. 2 knitting needles, cast on 22 sts. Work in stockinette st for 10 inches. Increase 1 st at end of next knit row and at same edge every 6th row until 40 sts are on needle. Work without increasing until piece is long enough to reach from lower edge to center back neck edge. Bind off 10 sts at the beginning of each purl row until all sts are bound off.
RIGHT FRONT FACING ... Work as for Left Front Facing, reversing shapings.
POCKET BAND (Make 2) ... With Grey and No. 2 knitting needles, cast on 18 sts. Work in stockinette st for 4 inches. Bind off.
BELT ... With Grey and No. 2 knitting needles, cast on 20 sts. Work in stockinette st for length desired. Bind off.
Block to measurements. Sew up back, side, sleeve and upper sleeve seams. Sew back edges of collar. Sew back of collar along back neck edge. Turn hem to wrong side and sew in place. Turn inch hem at cuff edge to wrong side and sew in place. Sew bound-off sts of facings together. Sew on facings. Fold pocket bands in half and sew edges together. Sew pocket bands in place. Sew wide ribbon along center of belt. Turn edges of belt and sew to ribbon, shaping one end to a point. Work buttonhole st closely around buckle. Sew buckle to belt. With 2 strands of Grey make a 3-inch chain, sl st in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across (tab). Break off. Sew tab to belt near buckle.
SKIRT
BACK ... Starting at lower edge with Grey and No. 2 knitting needles, cast on 196 (204, 212) sts. Work in stockinette st for 11 rows. Next row: Knit across (hemline). Continue in stockinette st until piece measures 3 inches from hemline, ending with a purl row.
1st decrease row: K 24 (25, 29), * k 2 tog, k 47 (49, 49). Repeat from * 2 more times, k 2 tog, k 23 (24, 28) (4 sts decreased). Work without decreasing until piece measures 6 inches from hemline, ending with a purl row. 2nd decrease row: K 23 (24, 28), * k 2 tog, k 46 (48, 48). Block to measurements. Sew up side seams, leaving 7 inches free at top of left side for zipper. Turn hem to wrong side and sew in place. Make a narrow hem at zipper opening and sew in place on wrong side. Sew grosgrain ribbon to wrong side of waist. Sew in zipper. Fasten waist with snap fasteners.
