GAUGE: Stockinette st—8½  sts measure 1 inch; 21 rows measure 2 inches.

BACK  ... Starting at lower edge, cast on 116 (124, 132) sts and work in ribbing of k 2, p 2 for 3 (3, 3½) inches. Now work in stockinette st, knit 1 row, purl 1 row, increasing 1 st at both ends of next row and every 5th row thereafter until there are on needle 146 (150, 156) sts. Work without increasing until piece measures in all 10 (10½, 11½) inches.

To Shape Armholes: Bind off 5 sts at beginning of next 2 rows, then bind off 2 sts at beginning of each row 20 (22, 24) times. Decrease 1 st at end of each row until 18 sts remain. Work without decreasing until piece measures 9 (9½, 10) inches from first row of armhole shaping. Bind off.

LEFT FRONT ... Starting at lower edge, cast on 68 (72, 76) sts and work in ribbing of k 2, p 2 for 3 (3, 3½) inches. At beginning of next row cast on 12 sts for front facing. Work in stockinette st, increasing 1 st at side edge every 5th row until there are on needle 91 (96, 101) sts. Work without increasing until piece measures 10 (10½, 11½) inches in all, ending at side edge.

To Shape Armhole: Bind off 8 sts at beginning of next row, then bind off 4 sts at same edge every other row 3 times.

Decrease 1 st at armhole edge every other row until 37 sts remain, ending at front edge.

To Shape Neck: Bind off 24 sts at the beginning of next row and work across to last 2 sts, then k 2 tog. Decrease 1 st at both ends of every other row until 2 sts remain. Bind off.

RIGHT FRONT ... Work exactly as for Left Front, reversing shapings and making a set of buttonholes when piece measures 3¾ (3¾, 4¼) inches in all and every 1½ inches: thereafter, until 6 sets of buttonholes in all are made-to make a set of buttonholes, on one row, right side facing k 4 sts, bind off 3 sts, k 10 sts, bind off 3 sts and work to end of row; on next row, cast on 3 sts over each of the 3 sts bound off.

SLEEVES ... Starting at cuff, cast on 117 (121, 125) sts. Work in moss st, * k 1, p 1. Repeat from * across, ending with k 1. Repeat this row until piece measures 2½ (3, 3½) inches in all.

To Shape Top: Keeping continuity of pattern, bind off 2 st at beginning of next 4 rows, then work 3 rows without decreasing. Decrease 1 st at both ends of every 4th row until 37 sts remain. When piece measures 12 (12½, 13) inches in all. bind off 2 sts at beginning of every other row until 3 sts remain. Bind off.

COLLAR  ... Starting at center back of Collar, cast on 15 sts and knit across. Work in stockinette st, casting on 15 sts a beginning of next 4 rows, then cast on 18 (20, 22) sts at beginning of following 2 rows. There are on needle 111 (115, 119) sts. Work without increasing until piece measure 2¼ (2¼, 2½) inches in all, ending with a knit row. Next row: Knit across (hemline). Bind off 4 sts at beginning of next 2 rows. Work 5 more rows in stockinette st. Bind off.

Block to measurements given. Sew side and sleeve seams. Sew in sleeves, sewing long edge to back. Turn front facing to wrong side, matching buttonholes and sew in place. Sew buttonholes together. Turn bound off sts on wrong side at each end of collar. Turn hem to wrong side and sew in place. Sew collar to neck edge, leaving ¾ inch free at each front edge. Sew on buttons to correspond with buttonholes. With crochet hook make sc closely around edge of sleeves join and turn, sl st in each sc around. Join and break off. With crochet hook make 2 lengths of chain 24 (25, 26) inches long, turn, sl st in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Break off. Sew chain to raglan seams. Sew snap fasteners on ribbing and front neck edge.
