Size 34

Materials: Chadwick's Red Heart Sports Yarn, 11 balls (1 oz. balls).
½ oz. Angora.
Milward's Casein knitting pins, 1 pair No. 2 (2¾ mm. size).
A slide.
2 snap fasteners.

Gauge: 8 sts make 1 inch; 10 rows make 1 inch.

Back: Starting at bottom, cast on 113 sts and k across. 2nd row: * P 1, k 3, p 3, k 3, p 1, k 2, p 2, k 2. Repeat from * across, ending row with p 1, k 3, p 3, k 3, p 3. 3rd row: * K 1, p 3, k 3, p 3, k 1, p 2, slip next 2 sts as if to k, transfer these 2 sts back onto left-hand needle by inserting the needle through back of both sts, then k 2 (thus 2 twisted sts are made), p 2. Repeat from * across, ending row with k 1, p 3, k 3, p 3, k 1. Repeat these 2 rows until piece measures 6 inches. Then inc. 1 st at both ends of 1 row every inch, until there are 125 sts on needle. Work straight until piece measures 13½ inches, ending with 2nd row.

To Shape Armholes: Bind off 3 sts at beginning of each of next 6 rows. Work straight until piece measures 6½ inches from 1st row of armhole shaping. With wrong side of work toward you, work in pattern across 1st 38 sts, bind off 31 sts (thus starting neck shaping) and continue across. Hereafter, work over these 38 sts only, binding off 4 sts at neck edge once and 2 sts at neck edge every other row twice. To shape shoulder, starting at armhole edge, bind off 6 sts every other row 5 times. Work opposite side to correspond.

Front. Work exactly as for Back up to armhole shaping.

To Shape Armholes: Bind off 3 sts at beginning of each of next 6 rows. Work straight for 1 inch. Work in pattern across 1st 53 sts, inc. in next st, turn (thus starting front opening). 2nd row: Work in pattern across. 3rd row: Work in pattern across 1st 51 sts, 0, p 2 tog., p 2. Work 5 rows straight. 9th row: Repeat 3rd row. Repeat 4th to 9th rows incl. 3 times, and 2nd and 5th rows once. Starting at front opening, bind off 10 sts once, and 4 sts at same edge every other row twice. Then dec. 1 st at neck edge every row 3 times. Work straight for 6 rows. To shape shoulder, starting at armhole edge, bind off 6 sts every other row 5 times. Work opposite side to correspond.

Sleeves. Starting at bottom, cast on 62 sts. Work in pattern, increasing 1 st at both ends of every 13th row, until there are 86 sts on needle. Work straight until piece measures 17½ inches. To shape top of sleeve, bind off 3 sts at beginning of each of next 6 rows. Then dec. 1 st at end of each row until 24 sts remain. Bind off.

Collar. With Angora, cast on 2 sts and k 1, p 1. 2nd row: P 1, inc. in next st. 3rd row: Inc. in 1st st, p 1, k 1. Continue in ribbing of k 1, p 1, increasing 1 st every row at one side only, until there are 20 sts on needle. Drop Angora, attach Sports Yarn and continuing with increases, work 2 rows. Then, continuing with increases, work next 2 rows in Angora. Break off and continue in Sports Yarn, increasing until there are 34 sts on needle. Work straight until piece measures 7¾ inches from last increase (this is half of collar). Do not break yarn but work other half to correspond.

Belt. Work exactly as for collar, until there are 12 sts on needle. Drop Angora, attach Sports Yarn and continuing with increases, work 2 rows. Drop Sports Yarn, pick up Angora, and work 2 rows straight. Break off Angora. Continue with Sports Yarn until work measures 13 inches from last increase (this is half of belt). Do not break yarn but work other half to correspond. Slip one end of belt through slide, turn back and sew. Sew up underarm and shoulder seams. Sew up sleeves and sew sleeves in. Sew collar around neck edge. Using double Angora, crochet a chain 30 inches long to lace up front opening. Draw belt through slide, and fasten in place with a snap fastener.
