Duchesse Pullover Pattern #1115

Size 34

Materials: Chadwick's Red Heart Shetland Floss, 10 balls (1 oz. balls).
Milward's Casein knitting pins, 1 pair No. 3 (3 mm. size) and 1 pair No. 4 (3½ mm. size).

Gauge: 17 sts make 2 inches; 8 rows make 1 inch.

Back. Starting at waistline with No. 3 needles, cast on 137 sts and work as follows: 1st row: K 1, p 1, alternately to last st, k 1. 2nd row: P 1, k 1, alternately to last st, p 1. Repeat these 2 rows for 2½ inches, ending with 2nd row (ribbing). Then continue as follows: 1st row: Work in ribbing to within last 2 sts, turn. 2nd row: Same as 1st row. 3rd row: Work in ribbing to within last 4 sts, turn. 4th row: Same as 3rd row. 5th row: Work in ribbing to within last 6 sts, turn. 6th row: Same as 5th row. Work in this manner until 1 st remains. Change to No. 4 needles and work in ribbing across sts on left hand needle, then continue as follows: 1st row: K 2 tog., work in ribbing across next 66 sts, 0, k 1, 0, work in ribbing to within last 2 sts, k 2 tog. 2nd row: Work in ribbing along next 67 sts, p 3, work in ribbing along next 67 sts. 3rd row: Same as 1st row. 4th row: Work in ribbing to end of row. Repeat these 4 rows until side edge measures 12 inches, ending with 4th row of pattern.

To Shape Armholes: Bind off 9 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows, then k 2 tog. at both ends of every row until 65 sts remain. Hereafter, k 3 tog. at both ends of every row, until 5 sts remain. Then k 2 tog., k 1, k 2 tog. Bind off tightly. This point turns over and forms a pointed collar.

Front. Work exactly as for Back.

Sleeves: Starting at top of sleeve, with No. 4 needles cast on 5 sts. Then work as follows: 1st row: K 1, p 1, 0, k 1, 0, p 1, k 1. 2nd row: P 1, k l, p 3, k 1, p 1. 3rd row: K 1, p 1, k 1, 0, k 1, 0, k 1, p 1, k 1. 4th row: Work in ribbing. Repeat these 4 rows, increasing (in ribbing) 1 st at both ends of every other row until there are 81 sts on needle. Then work twice into every 7th and 8th st on next row (101 sts on needle). Hereafter, keeping center pattern, dec. 1 st at both ends of every 5th row twice (107 sts). Then, discontinue center pattern and work in ribbing of k 1, p 1, decreasing 1 st at both ends of every 5th row until 61 sts remain. Change to No. 3 needles and work for 2½ inches. Bind off. Sew up underarm and shoulder seams. Sew up sleeve seams and sew sleeves in.
