ENTIRE AFGHAN IS KNITTED IN ONE PIECE. PATTERN STITCH: Row 1-K 4, *yo, K 3, sl 1, K 2 tog, psso, K 3, yo, K 1, repeat from * across row, ending K 4 instead of K 1. Rows 2 and 4-K 2, P across row, ending K 2. Row 3-K 5, *yo, K 2, sl 1, K 2 tog, psso, K 2, yo, K 3, repeat from * across row, ending K 5 instead of K 3. Row 5-K 3, K 2 tog, *yo, K 1, yo, K 1, sl 1, K 2 tog, psso, K 1, yo, K 1, yo, sl 1, K 2 tog, psso, repeat from * across row to within last 7 sts, K 1, yo, K 1, yo, sl 1, K 1, psso, K 3. Row 6-K 2, P across row, ending K 2. Repeat these 6 rows for pattern.

AFGHAN: With Color 1 cast on 227 sts. Work in pat, graduating colors as follows: Rows 1 through 5-Color 1,

*Row 6, then Rows 1 through 5-Color 2

Row 6, then Rows 1 through 5-Color 3

Row 6, then Rows 1 through 5-Color 4

Row 6, then Rows 1 through 5-Color 5

Row 6, then Rows 1 through 5-Color 4

Row 6, then Rows 1 through 5-Color 3

Row 6, then Rows 1 through 5-Color 2

Row 6, then Rows 1 through 5-Color 1

Repeat from * 7 times more, bind off.

TASSEL FRINGE: Wind Color 1 around a 5 inch cardboard 20 times. Tie at one end, leaving enough yarn for attaching to Afghan. Remove from cardboard and tie again ½ inch below first knot. Cut opposite end and trim. Make 48 tassels in this manner and tie one to each scallop at ends of Afghan.
