Continue in this manner, increasing 1 st at beginning of each row and making an O on each side of center Rose stitch as before on every uneven row until there are 17 sts on the Rose pattern, ending with inc in first st, k 8, p 17, k 10. Next row: Inc in first st, k 1, attach a ball of Green and k 3 Green sts in next st, k 7 Grey, with Rose sl 1, k 1, p.s.s.o., k 13 Rose, k 2 tog, k 7 Grey, attach another ball of Green and k 3 Green sts in next st, k 2 Grey (40 sts). With right side facing, work in pattern to within 3 sts of Rose pattern, then sl 1, k 2 tog, p.s.s.o., and work in pattern to end of row. Break off Rose. Work over center section in Grey only, decreasing as before over Green petals until 1 st remains (52 sts on the row). Break off all balls of yarn excepting the Grey at the end of the needle and work the remainder of block in Grey as follows: 1st row: K across. 2nd row: Right side facing, k 2 tog (a dec), * O, k 2 tog. Repeat from * across (51 sts). 3rd row: Dec 1 st and k across. 4th row: Dec 1 st and p across. 5th row: Dec 1 st and k across. Repeat 2nd to 5th rows incl until 1 st remains. Break off. Make 3 similar blocks and sew together neatly on wrong side with over-and-over stitches, having the Rose patterns at center of block. This completes a large block. Make 3 x 5 large blocks and sew together as before.

FRINGE1st rnd: Cut 8 strands of Grey, each 12 inches long. Double these strands, forming a loop, insert a crochet hook through a stitch at edge of afghan and draw loop through. Draw loose ends through loop and pull tightly. Make a fringe around all 4 sides of afghan, having each fringe ½ inch apart. 2nd rnd: Pick up 4 strands each of first 2 fringes and knot these 8 strands together, about 1 inch down from 1st rnd and in center of first 2 fringes. Pick up the other 4 strands of 2nd fringe along with 4 strands of next fringe and knot as before. Continue thus around. When fringe is completed, trim ends evenly.
