Size 16-18

MATERIALS REQUIRED. American Thread Company “Clover Leaf” or “Dawn” Shetland Floss or “Clover Leaf” Lustre Wool.
Skirt. 9 Balls
Jacket. 10 Balls
Blouse. 8 Balls
1 #3 Circular Needle, 1 pr. each Bone Knitting Needles size 1 and 3, 14 inches long.
1 Steel Crochet Hook #2
Gauge: 7 sts—1 inch, 8 rows—1 inch.
The Suit illustrated was developed in “Clover Leaf” Shetland Floss, the Skirt and Jacket in Shade #435 Spanish Tile and the Blouse in Shade #433 Lt. Copper.

Skirt

On Circular Needle cast on 350 Sts and work in plain knitting for 10 inches. Next Row decrease after every 15th st and work 4 inches even. Decrease after every 14th st, work 4 inches even. Decrease after every 11th st, work 8 inches even. Decrease after every 8th st, work 3 inches even. Decrease after every 5th st and work 3 inches even or until length desired, bind off. Crochet casing at top for elastic and finish lower edge of skirt with 2 rows of s c.

Jacket

BACK. On #3 Needles cast on 116 sts, K 1, P 1, to end of row. Repeat this row for 1½ inches then K one row, P one row until back measures 14½ inches. Bind off 6 sts each side for armhole. Next 18 Rows decrease one st at beginning of each row. Work even until armhole measures 7½ inches. Bind off 6 sts at the beginning of next 10 rows for shoulder and bind off remaining sts for neck.

RIGHT FRONT. Cast on 67 sts, K 1, P 1 for 1½ inches same as back.
Next Row. K 1, P 1 for 9 sts and K remaining sts.
Next Row. Purl to within the last 9 sts and K 1, P 1, to end of row. Continue work for 15 inches working the seed st band at front edge. Bind off 6 sts at underarm. Next 18 Rows decrease one st at underarm every other row and work even until armhole measures 6½ inches. Bind off 12 sts at neck edge.
Next 10 Rows decrease one st at neck edge, at the same time bind off 6 sts at shoulder side every other row 5 times. Work other front to correspond.

SLEEVE. Cast on 97 sts, work 1½ inch seed st band and continue in stockinette st, decreasing one st each side every inch 6 times, continue even until sleeve measures 16½ inches or length desired. Bind off 6 sts each side then decrease 1 st each side until 24 sts remain, bind off and work other sleeve to correspond. Sew shoulder seams, sew sleeves in position and sew underarm. Pick up sts around neck and work 1¼ inch band in seed st, finish with buttons and loops.

Blouse

BACK. With fine needles cast on 100 sts, K 2, P 2, repeat to end of row and work 3 inches of ribbing. Change to #3 needles add 1 st, K one row, P one row. 3rd Row. Begin pattern. K 3, P 4, repeat to end of row ending with K 3.
4th Row. P 3, * K, P, K in next st, P 3 together, P 3, * repeat between * across row.
5th Row. Same as 3rd row.
6th Row. P 3, * P 3 together, K, P, K in next st, P 3, * repeat between * across row. Repeat last 4 rows 3 times.
Next Row. Omit the 1st and last stripe of pattern. K 10 sts. Continue pattern knitting plain the last 10 sts. Next Row P 10 sts, continue pattern, purling the last 10 sts. Continue work for 14 more rows, knitting and purling alternately the first and last 10 sts.
Next Row drop the first and last stripe of pattern by knitting the 1st and last 17 sts, continue work for 15 more rows.
Next Row. K the first and last 24 sts and continue work for 15 more rows.
Next 2 Rows bind off 6 sts at the beginning of each row, working plain over the 2 end patterns. Next 10 Rows decrease one st at the beginning of each row, work 4 more rows of pattern.
Next Row. K 27, continue pattern knitting the last 27 sts, continue pattern for 15 more rows.
Next Row. K 34, continue pattern knitting the last 34 sts, continue pattern for 18 more rows. K one row, P one row until underarm measures 7 inches. Next 10 Rows bind off 5 sts at beginning of each row, bind off remaining sts.

FRONT. With fine needles cast on 114 sts, work 3 inches of ribbing, change to large needles, add one st and continue front same as back to underarm.
Next 2 Rows bind off 6 sts at beginning of each row dropping the 2 end stripes of pattern. Next 10 Rows decrease one st at the beginning of each row. Work 4 more rows of pattern.
Next Row. K 27, P 4, K 31, P 4, K 27.
Next Row. P 27, K, P, K in next st, P 3 together, P 31, K, P, K in next st, P 3 together, P 27. Continue pattern for 14 more rows working the 2 stripes of pattern only. Continue front knitting one row and purling one row. Work 12 rows even.
Next Row. K 43, bind off 7 sts for neck and continue work on remaining sts. Work 14 more rows decreasing one st at neck side each row.
Next 10 Rows bind off 5 sts for shoulder every other row decreasing one st at neck side the first 4 rows working remaining 6 rows even. Work other side to correspond.

SLEEVE. On small needles cast on 60 sts and work 3 inches of ribbing. Change to large needles, K one row adding 13 sts in row. P one row.
Next Row. Begin pattern, 1st row, K 31, P 4, K 3, P 4, K 31.
2nd Row. P 31, K, P, K in next st, P 3 together, P 3, K, P, K in next st, P 3 together, P 31.
3rd Row. Same as 1st row.
4th Row. P 31, P 3 together, K, P, K in next st, P 3, P 3 together, K, P, K in next st, P 31. Repeat the last 4 rows until sleeve measures 17 inches. Next 2 Rows bind off 4 sts at beginning of each row. Continue sleeve decreasing one st at the beginning of each row until 10 sts remain, bind off and work other sleeve to correspond. Sew shoulder seams leaving 2 inches of left shoulder open.
Work 2 rows of single crochet at shoulder opening and finish neck with 3 rows of single crochet.
