SIZE—Infant.

MATERIALS—SPINNERIN BABY WOOL 1 ball; small amount of contrast­ing yarn for embroidery; 1 set double point needles No. 12; 1 steel Crochet Hook No. 3.

GAUGE—8½ sts. = 1 inch. 13 rows = 1 inch. Accurate gauge is essential.

PATTERN—Stockinette St. (knit 1 row, purl 1 row). Cuff—Ribbing of K2, P2.

Cast on 48 sts. and join, being careful not to twist sts. (16 sts. on each of 3 needles). Work in ribbing of K2, P2 for 1½ inches. Work beading as follows: *K1, YO, K2 tog., repeat from * for 1 round. Knit round and round until work measures 4 inches from start. *K2 tog., repeat from * for 1 round (24 sts.). K1 round even. *K2 tog., repeat from * for 1 round (12 sts.). K1 round even. Divide sts. evenly on 2 needles. Weave these sts. tog. Using 2 strands of yarn, make a loose ch 14 inches long. Work 1 row of S. C. along this ch. Fasten off. Run cord through beading and finish ends by rolling ends in circle and sewing to ch. Embroider a French knot in each circle. Embroider flowers on back of mitten in contrasting color as shown in illustration.
