MATERIALS—SPINNERIN HEAVEN SPUN 2 balls; 1 pair Knitting Needles No. 3; 1 pair steel Knitting Needles No. 12; 1 steel Crochet Hook No. 4; 3 small pearl buttons.
MEASUREMENTS—Chest 20 inches; bottom to underarm 8 inches; sleeve to underarm 8½ inches.
GAUGE—7½ sts. = 1 inch. 11 rows = 1 inch. Accurate gauge is essential.
PATTERN—Multiple of 9 plus 2. Row 1—K2, *YO, K2, slip 1, K1, P.S.S.O., K2 tog., K2, YO, K1, repeat from * across row. Row 2—Purl. Row 3—K1, *YO, K2, slip 1, K1, P.S.S.O., K2, tog., K2, YO, K1, repeat from * across row. Row 4—Purl. Repeat these 4 rows for pattern.
BODY—Using No. 3 needles, cast on 146 sts. Purl 1 row. Then work in pattern until work measures 8 inches from start. Shape armholes and make yoke as follows: Work in ribbing of K1, P1 for 34 sts., and place these sts. on holder for right front. Bind off next 10 sts., work
across next 58 sts in ribbing of P1, K1 and place these sts. on holder for back; bind off next 10 sts., work 34 sts. remaining for left front in ribbing of K1, P1. Working on left front, work in ribbing of K1, P1, dec. 1 st. at arm edge every other row twice. Work even on these 32 sts. until yoke measures 2½ inches. At neck edge, bind off 12 sts. Dec. 1 st. at neck edge every other row 4 times. Work even until yoke measures 4 inches. Bind off loosely. Work right front to correspond with left front, reversing shaping. Work even in ribbing of K1, P1 on the 58 sts. of back until the yoke measures 4 inches. At the beg. of each of the next 2 rows, bind off 16 sts. Bind off remaining 26 sts.
SLEEVES—Using No. 12 needles, cast on 44 sts. Work in ribbing of K1, P1 for 1¾ inches. Change to No. 3 needles and work in ribbing inc. 1 st. each end of needle every 8th row until there are 54 sts. on needle. Work even until sleeve measures 8½ inches from start. At the beg. of each of the next 2 rows bind off 6 sts. Work 8 rows even. Dec. 1 st. each end of needle. Repeat this dec. every 4th row twice more. Then dec. 1 st. each end of needle every other row until 20 sts. remain on needle. Bind off loosely.
FINISHING—Sew shoulder and sleeve seams. Sew sleeves in armholes. Starting at the bottom of right front, work 1 row of S. C. up right front, around neck, down left front and around bottom of sweater, working a picot on each scallop as follows: *Work in S. C. to peak of scallop, ch. 2, S. C. in same st., repeat from * to end of row. Fasten off. Tie in yarn on right front at start of ribbing yoke. Work in S. C., making 3 button loops at even intervals on right front yoke by ch. 2, skip 2. Work shell around neck as follows: S. C. in first st., *ch. 3, work 2 D. C. in same st., skip 2 sts., work 1 S. C. in next st., and repeat from * around neck. Break off. Sew buttons in place on left front.
