Infants to 6 Months

Materials—Fleisher’s Wonderized Babyfair, 3 balls; or Fleisher’s Wonderized DeLuxe Dock and Sport Yarn, 3 skeins; or Fleisher’s Baby Zephyr, 3-fold, 3 balls.
1 card Glossilla for Edging and Embroidery.

White Knitting Needles, 1 pair Size 2.
Steel Crochet Hook, Size 4.

Gauge: 15 sts = 2 inches; 12 rows = 1 inch

Pattern Stitch—Multiple of 12 plus 6.

First and all odd rows—Purl.

2nd row—(right side)—* K 1, p 1; repeat from * to end.

4th row—* P 1, k 1; repeat from * to end.

6th row—Same as 2nd row.

8th row—Work as for 4th row on 8 sts, * yo, k 2 tog (for eyelet), work pattern p 1, k 1 on 10 sts *; repeat between *’s, end yo, k 2 tog, work 8. Repeat first 4 rows twice, then repeat first, 2nd and 3rd row once more.

20th row—P 1, k 1 for 14 sts; repeat between *’s of 8th row, end yo, k 2 tog, work 14.

21st row—Purl.

22nd row—Same as 2nd row.

24th row—Same as 4th row. Repeat these 24 rows for pattern.

Back—Cast on 78 sts. Work pattern, decreasing 1 st each side at 1 ½ ins., then every 1 in. 3 times, taking care to keep pattern (70 sts). Work even until 5 ½ ins. from beginning.

Sleeves—Cast on 40 sts at beginning of next 2 rows (150 sts). Work even until 3 ¼ ins. from first cast-on row of sleeve, end on right side.

Next row—P 62 sts, slip to holder. Bind off 26 sts for back of neck.

Right Front And Sleeve—Work 8 rows even on remaining 62 sts, end at neck edge. Cast on 14 sts for front neck edge (76 sts). Work even until sleeve measures 7 ins., omitting last eyelet on front edge on each eyelet pattern row, end on wrong side. Bind off 40 sts at beginning of next row for sleeve (36 sts). Continue pattern, increasing 1 st at underarm edge every 1 in., 4 times (40 sts). Work even until same length as back below sleeve. Bind off from wrong side, purling all sts. Beginning at neck edge, work other half of sleeve and left front to correspond.

Finishing—Sew seams. Beginning at lower edge of left front and working from wrong side, work 1 row sc up front edge, around neck and down right front edge, spacing sts to keep and even edge, increasing at corners. Work 1 row sc on lower edge of sleeves. Steam. Embroider eyelets with Glossilla in buttonhole st, see illustration.

Edging—With Glossilla and working from right side, work 1 sc at lower edge of right underarm seam, * ch 2, 2 dc in same st as last sc, skip 2 sts of lower edge, 1 sc in next st; repeat from * around entire garment, skipping only 1 sc on front edges and around neck, join in first sc. Fasten off. Repeat edging on lower edge of sleeves, skipping only 1 sc between shells. Trim with ribbon.
