Measurements—Width of back at underarm 10 ½ in 11 in 11 ½ in
Width of each front at underarm (hemmed) 6 ¾ in 7 in 7 ¼ in
Length from lower edge to shoulder 12 ¼ in 13 ¾ in 14 ¾ in
Sleeves—Width at underarm 8 in 8 ½ in 9 in
Back—Cast on 84 sts 88 sts 92 sts
Work stockinette st (p 1 row. K 1 row) for 7 ¾ in 9 in 9 ¾ in
Armholes—Bind off 3 sts at beginning of next 2 rows for underarm. Dec. 1 st each side every 2nd row 3 times. Work even on 72 sts 76 sts 80 sts
Until measurements above underarm is 4 ½ in 4 ¾ in 5 in
Bind off.
Pocket Linings—Cast on 24 sts. Work stockinette st for 3 in 3 ¾ in 3 ¾ in
Break yarn. Slip sts on holder. Make 2.
Right Front—Cast on 61 sts 63 sts 65 sts
First row (wrong side)—Purl 7 sts 9 sts 11 sts
K 1, p 6, k 1, p 24, k 1, p 6, k 1, p 14 (for front border and hem).

2nd row—K 14, p 1, k 6, p 1, k 24, p 1, k 6, p 1, k to end. Repeat these 2 rows twice. Repeat first row again.

8th (Cable twist) row—K 14, * p 1, slip next 3 sts to crochet hook, hold at back of work, k next 3 sts, k 3 sts from hook, p 1 *, k 24; repeat between *’s once, k to end.
Repeating these 8 rows of cable pattern, work buttonhole as follows when measurement from lower edge is (end at edge of front border) 1 in 2 in 1 ½ in
Buttonhole rows—K 2, bind off next 3 sts for buttonhole, k until 4 sts from buttonhole, bind off next 3 sts, work to end. Next row, cast on 3 sts over bound-off sts.
Repeating buttonhole every 2 in 1 ¾ in 2 in
Continue cable pattern until measurement from lower edge is (end on wrong side with 5th row above cable twist row) 3 in 3 ¾ in 3 ¾ in
Next row—Work 22 sts, bind off 24 sts for pocket opening, k to end.
Note—Cable at underarm side of pocket is now discontinued, cable at inside edge of border and buttonholes are continued up to neck, making total number of pairs of buttonholes 6 7 7
Next row—Purl to opening, purl across 24 sts of pocket lining, work to end. Work until same length as back to armhole, end at underarm edge. Shape armhole as for back.
Work even on 55 sts 57 sts 59 sts
Until measurement above underarm is (end on wrong side with 7th row above a twist row) 1 ¼ in 1 ½ in 1 ¾ in
Yoke-First row-K 14, * p 1, work cable twist on next 6 sts, p 1, k 2 sts 3 sts 3 sts
Repeat from * 3 times, end last repeat k 3 sts 2 sts 4 sts
Continue to work cables on yoke in this way until measurement above underarm is (end at armhole edge with a twist row) 3 ½ in 3 ¾ in 4 in
There should be 1 row above last buttonhole.
First dec. row-Work 23 sts 24sts 26 sts
k 1, p 2, p 2 tog, p 2, k 1, p 2 sts 3 sts 3 sts
k 1, p 2, p 2 tog, p 2, k 1, p 14. Bind off 25 sts for neck, work to end. Dec 1 st at neck edge every row 5 times, end with twist row, leaving 23 sts 25 sts 27 sts
2nd dec. row—Purl 3 sts 2 sts 4 sts
* K 1, p 2, p 2 tog, p 2, k 1, p 2 sts* 3 sts* 3 sts*
Repeat between *’s once, (k 1, sizes 3 and 4 only). Work 3 rows even on 21 sts 23 sts 25 sts
Having 5 instead of 6 sts in each cable. Bind off.

Left Front-Cast on same number of sts as for right front.

First row (wrong side)-P 14 (for border), k 1, p 6, k 1, p 24, k 1, p t end. Work to correspond to right front up to pocket opening, omitting buttonholes, end on wrong side with 5th row above a twist row.
Next row—K 15 sts 17 sts 19 sts
Bind off 24 sts for opening, work to end. Work to correspond to right front up to yoke.
Yoke-First row-K 3 sts 2 sts 4 sts
* p 1, work cable twist on next 6 sts, p 1, k 2 sts 3 sts 3 sts
Repeat from * 3 times, end last repeat k 14. Work to correspond to right front up to first dec. row. Dec. 1 st at center of the 2 cables nearest front border in the next row.

Next row—Work to within 25 sts of front edge, bind off 25 sts for neck. Join yarn in last st and finish to correspond to right front.
Sleeves—Cast on for cuff 40 sts 44 sts 48 sts
Work k 2, p 2 for ribbing for 1 ¾ ins. Inc. row—K 1 st 3 sts 5 sts
* inc. 1 st in next st, k 3; repeat from *, end last repeat k 2 sts 4 sts 6 sts
Work stockinette st even for 7 rows on 50 sts 54 sts 58 sts
Inc. 1 st each side of next row; repeat increases every 8th row 10th row 10th row
6 times. Work even on 64 sts 68 sts 72 sts
until measurement from lower edge is 8 ¾ in 10 in 10 ¾ in
or desired length to underarm. Shape same as armholes of back. Bind off 2 sts at beginning of each of next 14 rows 16 rows 18 rows
Bind off 24 sts.

Finishing—Sew side edges of pocket linings to wrong side. Sew underarm and sleeve seams. Sew shoulder sts of fronts to same number of sts on each side of back leaving 30 sts for back of neck. Sew in sleeves with seam at center underarm. Turn back 7 sts on each front edge and hem, matching buttonholes. Finish buttonholes, working through both thicknesses. Work 2 rows sc on lower edge of sweater and on neck edge, working first row from right side and through both thicknesses of hem and pockets, keeping work flat. Work 1 row sc on top edge of pockets. Steam.
